BN coordinators demand recognition as "people's representatives"

Image
Despite being summarily rejected and defeated in the last general elections, the BN top leadership and their grassroots leaders had refused to recognize the people's verdict and choice for the Pakatan Rakyat candidates to be in the parliament and state legislative assemblies. Because of their refusal to accept the electoral defeat, the Umno-led BN federal government had decided to appoint the so-called constituency coordinators to take charge of all these parliamentary and state legislative constituencies which are currently held by elected members of parliament and state assemblymen from Pakatan Rakyat component parties. And now these BN constituency coordinators are demanding that the people and also the Pakatan Rakyat-led state governments should recognize them as the legitimate representatives of the people because they have the powers to approve funding and financial allocations to the constituencies that they are "representing". The recent strong arm tactic demand f...

Merdeka, so what?

Image
Today we hear voices from all parts of our nation, shouting Merdeka here and shouting Merdeka there. But are all these shouts real? Did these came from the bottom of the heart of all those who shouted these words? Or do they just shouted these words today and then forget about it tomorrow? Yes, it is not that we are not appreciating the spirit of Merdeka on 31 August every year. We do recognize that there are some people out there who are really appreciating this historic annual celebration which marked the independence of our nation 53 years ago. But, we are also upset and fed up there despite being an independent nation for 53 years now, our nation's unity is breaking up one by one, day by day and now almost every second in a day. These irresponsible racist leaders and politicians had made use of our "kemerdekaan" to further their own political gains, to further their own political powers, to further their supremacist order, to further their "ketuanan" order a...

Nik Aziz encouraged Teo to visit more suraus from now on

Image
Shrugging off mounted racist attacks and threats by Umno, Perkasa and MAIS over her visit to a surau last week, Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching said she is emboldened to visit even more Muslim houses of worship after being encouraged to do so by PAS Spiritual Leader and Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat. We are all glad that Teo had never given up her battle against all these racist terrorism who are out there to create hatred, revenge, violence and destruction of the national unity of our nation's multi-racial communities. This was also strengthened by statements made by renowned Islamic scholar Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin and Ustaz Zakaria Ahmad of Penang who both confirmed that there's nothing wrong at all for a non-Muslim to visit suraus or mosques and there is no sin for a Muslim to invite his or her non-Muslim friends to visit suraus or mosques. The Prophet had received non-Muslims representatives and friends in a mosque, how can they be banned from enteri...

Namawee was right to denounce racism

Image
Wee Meng Chee who is also popularly known as Namawee is absolutely right in denouncing racism in his recently released youtube short video clip. He had done nothing wrong on his video clip where he used harsh words to denounce a racist teacher who insulted her students with some anti-Chinese and anti-Indian statements while conducting the school's assembly. According to information minister Rais Yatim, the police should take action against Meng Chee for the said youtube video clip whom he claimed to be "racist", while defense minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi viewed the young man's act as a "threat" to the nation's sovereignty. Then education minister Hishamuddin Hussein had refused to initiate disciplinary action against some teachers who had uttered harsh racist remarks on their students and their parents. Just look at this situation, Meng Chee is carrying out his responsibilities as a Malaysian to denounce racism and instead he was accused as one of the ...

Islam doesn't bar non-Muslims from suraus, mosques

Image
Former Perlis mufti and renowned Islamic scholar Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin maintained today that non-Muslims can enter a mosque or surau, while pointing out that political parties using religion to cause racial strife are the actual culprits smearing the name of Islam. Yes, we agreed with Dr Mohd Asri's affirmative on this issue. Actually, there is nothing wrong with a non-Muslim being in the house of God. And even the Prophet himself did not bar non-Muslims from meeting him in the mosque. So Umno and Perkasa, what's the big deal on this? This is not an issue, this is not about religion, there is no problem with any religion at all. Islam is not a problem, Islam is a progressive and good religion. The real problem here is with Umno and Perkasa as both are extremist organizations trying to rage a racial war against the other races for the sake of ensuring their political survival. The problem is MAIS action has been political motivated, the problem is the Ruler has been wrong...

PAS veep says Umno attack on Teo a ā€˜cheap issueā€™

Image
PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub has accused Umno of double standards for criticizing Serdang MP Teo Nie Chingā€™s visit to a surau in her constituency. Teo has come under fire for delivering a speech at the Surau Al-Huda in Kajang last Sunday after evening prayers. ā€œIt is usual for BN component parties like MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PPP, SUPP, PRS, UPKO and LDP representatives to go to mosques and give speeches,ā€ he said. ā€œWhen BN does it, there is no issue. But when Pakatan Rakyat (PR) does it, there is an issue. This is a cheap issue,ā€ he added. The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) issued Teo a warning and suspended the Al-Huda surau committee over the incident while Wanita Umno chief Senator Shahrizat Jalil labelled Teoā€™s surau visit ā€œinsultingā€ - Agencies .

Surau committee suspended, MP sternly warned

Image
The Selangor Islamic Council (MAIS) has suspended the entire Al Huda surau committee and issued Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching with a harsh warning letter for addressing a gathering inside the surau prayer hall in Kajang last Sunday. Hey! What is wrong with the situation? Is it sinful for the surau committee to invite a non-Muslim member of parliament to attend the surau's function? Is it sinful for Muslims to accept or receive gifts and donations from a non-Muslim parliamentarian? Is it wrong for Nie Ching, who in her official capacity as a wakil rakyat to attend an official Islamic function of which she was invited? And is it wrong as a guest of honour, Nie Ching gave a speech in the surau? So, can any of the Islamic scholars please explain is it a sin and wrongful for Muslims to invite their non-Muslim friends or dignitaries into mosques or suraus to attend their official functions or events? That means, non-Muslims cannot step into mosques or suraus even if they are invited? Kindly ...

MPM says abolishing vernacular schools a must

Image
Unfazed by the firestorm of public protests, the Malay Consultative Council (MPM) said it stands by its suggestion that vernacular schools must be abolished at all cost. Looks like MPM's dislike and hatred towards other communities had came to a maximum level. MPM wanted to vernacular schools to be abolished soonest, that means MPM also wanted the federal constitution to be abolished, MPM wanted the national unity to be disintegrated, MPM wanted the rights of other communities to be abolished, MPM wanted all our rights to be abolished and withdrawn and so on. But, if you are not what we had said, then show us your hands and your heart. Okay MPM, if you really wanted all these to happen, let us all agree to your plan and do it together! Let us together abolish all race-based political parties, NGOs, institutions, policies, equities, economic structures, bumiputra status, educational quotas, scholarship quotas, government tenders for contractors, your "great" supremacist or...

BN constituency coordinators - undermining democracy and insult to the King, Rulers

Image
In aftermath of the last general election on March 2008, the Barisan Nasional (BN) had lost many seats in both parliamentary and state legislative assemblies. Besides, they had also lost few of the states to the opposition Pakatan Rakyat. In response to their election defeats, the Umno-led BN federal government choose not to recognize the mandates given by the people, i.e. by electing more Pakatan Rakyat representatives into the parliament and state legislative assemblies. To avenge the people's mandates (of rejecting these BN candidates), the BN federal government, under the guise of the prime minister's department appointed all these defeated BN election candidates to become BN parliamentary and state constituency coordinators to manage their respective "constituencies", providing them with annual grants and allocations like the ones enjoyed by the BN MPs and state assemblymen, thus completely denying all the constitutional rights of those Pakatan Rakyat MPs and sta...

Dah ketandusan modal, Umno curi slogan DAP pula

Image

It is sinful for Muslims to pray for the well-being of others, Umno said

Image
Recently, some Penang Umno leaders, particularly its state liaison chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had claimed that imams of several mosques in Permatang Pauh, Jelutong and Tasek Gelugor had remove their prayer words for the well-being of the Yang Dipertuan Agung and replaced them with Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's name in their Friday sermons. Wow, it shows that Umno hated Islam so much to an extend that they would insult this religion that majority of their party members had profess since birth. They wanted Islam to be hated by others by showering hatred on non-Muslims. Umno really likes to fuel hatred. Umno leaders said that it is sinful for Muslims to pray for the well-being of their non-Muslim friends. Is this what they are trying to point at? Muslims cannot pray for the well-being of their Christian, Buddhist, Taoist and Hindu friends and colleagues? And indirectly saying that it is also sinful for Christian, Buddhist, Taoist and Hindu people to pray for well-being their M...

Do not link Islam to Malay rights

By: Salina Abdul Jalil As a Muslim, I am tired of the now-regular statements coming from people like UMNO Youth and Perkasa decrying those they accused of questioning "Malay rights and status of Islam". Pray, since when has preferential treatment of a race ever been linked to Islam? These groups should do Muslims, including those Muslims who are not Malays and who believe in Islamic juctice, a big favour by not mentioning 'Malay rights' and 'Islam' in one breath. For this reason, I applaud the stance by PAS on helping all the poor regardless of their race because this is what Islam stands for. PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang could not make it clearer when he recently said the Bumi discount for property purchase should be extended to all poor. The Prophet Muhammad was not sent to us by Allah for Muslims only, but as Allah says in the Qur'an, he is a "rahmatun lil alamin", mercy to the world. He is sent for the whole mankind, and he lays down law...

Now, Perkasa terrorizes the church

Several local community leaders have reacted with disbelief to a police report made by terrorizing extremist Malay group Perkasa against a Protestant church in Shah Alam. In his police report, a local Perkasa self-proclaimed "great" leader Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the Grace Church in Shah Alam and its pastor Joseph Marcose had "insulted the Sultan of Selangor" for planning to stage a Christian play in the Muslim-majority city during the fasting month. Zainal said the play at Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC), themed "There is Hope", which revolves around the country's independence and which was meant only for church-goers, was a deliberate attempt to propagate Christianity among Muslims. It looks like Perkasa had started to go round bastardizing other people for being active in their respective religions and beliefs. They even went to an extend of trying to curb the freedom of other religious organizations from carrying out their activities and relig...

Confirmed not a suicide, says Dr Pornthip

Thai pathologist, Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand today ruled out suicide as a cause of death for political secretary, Teoh Beng Hock, after carrying out a second autopsy on him. In a packed courtroom, she maintained her opinion that Teoh's death was not suicide based on the injuries sustained from the fall and due to lack of evidence confirming that he was conscious after the fall. "This time round, I will not go for percentages because after carrying out the second autopsy by myself, I'm very sure this is not a case of suicide," she said. Apart from this, Dr Pornthip also confirmed that the investigator on Teoh's death didn't follow actual protocol on 'note' which they recently claimed to had found it from Teoh's bag. According to the protocol of investigation, in the event of a crime scene investigation, any notes or other items found should be immediately sent for forensic examination. In this case there is an attempt by both the federal government an...

Quit BN if you are sincere, MCA told

Image
The MCA has been sounding so vocal recently and its party leaders even attacked and criticized Umno leaders. For what reason MCA had turned so vocal these days? Trying to win back Chinese votes which it lost in the last general election? But they are doing this at the expense of DAP. Why did the MCA president Chua Soi Lek said that they work hand in hand with DAP to serve the interest of the Chinese community effectively. First of all, in their quest to regain the support of the Chinese community, why did they want to borrow DAP's name into the scene? To convince the Chinese community that they are fighting for them? So, what about the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition which the MCA had serve and bowed to for decades? Is MCA telling Umno that they could no longer listen blindly to the dominant party in the coalition anymore? Well, Umno is reacting harshly on MCA now. Even Utusan Malaysia, Umno's very own newspaper had already start attacking MCA for being too vocal within the BN ...

Take stern action against 'racist' principal in Johor

Image
The federal government has been urged to take stern action against a secondary school principal who allegedly uttered derogatory remarks against Chinese and Indians students during a school function in Kulai, Johor. We think stern action isn't sufficient to remind our educators to be real educators for all our children. In fact, this racist school principal should be terminated from her service or demoted due to the fact that her action does affect the national unity. The duties and responsibilities of these education officers also include educating our children on the importance of national unity and that everyone of us should shun racism, but unfortunately this irresponsible principal had acted against her role as an educator. She discouraged multi-racial interaction, promote disunity, forging hatred among ethnicities and showered these children with false information. If the federal government and the education ministry do not want to sack her for her seditious statements, but i...

Racism spreading into schools?

Image
What is happening to our nation's education system? The politics of racism and hate is now spreading into schools and our children are now been educated with racism. These children are now being taught to think as Malay, Chinese and Indians and not as Malaysians. Our children are now being lectured to accept the fact that Malay, Chinese and Indians are merely "penumpang" in a country called Malaysia, instead of being Malaysians having our rights in Malaysia. Another case in Johor recently where an insane principal of a secondary school in Johor gave her speech mentioning the following: "Pelajar-pelajar Cina tidak diperlukan dan boleh balik ke China ataupun Sekolah Foon Yew. Bagi pelajar India, tali sembahyang yang diikat di pergelangan tangan dan leher pelajar nampak seakan anjing dan hanya anjing akan mengikat seperti itu". A case similar to a Perkasa kind of jargon is now practically underway in our nation's education system. So again, is Umno and Perkasa ...

Sodomy 2: Will Anwar get a fair trial?

Image
One after another applications made by the defense attorneys of Parliamentary Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to obtain copies of medical reports, copies of the "alleged sodomy victim" Mohd Saiful Bukhari's described report and medical examination for the purpose of review has been blatantly rejected continuously without any valid reasons. The reason for the rejection by the court judge was these information applied by the defense are not relevant and the defense does not really require these evidence for review. That means Datuk Seri Anwar was not fairly accorded with the review and documentations of his own case. Is this a fair trial? Is he properly accorded his human rights? Whatever applications made forward by the defense team to review documentations, information and reports related to the case for the trial were all unreasonably rejected. As such, Datuk Seri Anwar's defense were actually left defenseless as they are lack of proper or detailed documen...

The AG, inquest fooled us and made a "sandiwara" out of it

Image
It is already one year plus now and the government appointed magistrate inquest has yet to resolve the Teoh Beng Hock's murder case and all those murderers are still happily walking free out there. The federal appointed forensic experts also kept on giving conflicting and confusing views and advice on the victim's condition and had on several occasion denied the rights of the victim's family to have their own forensic expert to examine the case. And recently, we learned that the attorney-general had actually withholding one of the major evidence away from the inquest. What the hell is this? And if the AG says that he is not aware that those evidence were withheld at his chambers, then he should immediately resign from his position. The action of the AG clearly shows that they themselves had in fact insulted the existing judiciary system. We are glad that the Teoh family have not given up hope and we would see, they will not give up so easily. They will continue to strive to...

Teachers should focus on education and students

Image
We are gravely disappointed with the education minister's recently ruling allowing school teachers to take active part in politics. From the educational point of view, such move endorse by the minister is some sort of selfish and it is a very bad decision. We must understand that the responsibilities of the school teachers are to provide education to our students and in order to ensure these students' success, all teachers should fully utilize all their resources and focus on the students performance and their works. Just imagine if teachers were to be allowed to participate actively in politics, what will the school become in future. Will all these politician-teachers be able to focus on their educational duties and responsibilities? Are they going to take medical leave or emergency leave very frequent in order to attend to political functions? If these politician-teachers were missing from their classrooms, will there be any effective replacements to ensure the students' ...

LGE: Penang free of business support letters

Image
Penang Chief Minister and DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng said his state administration does not entertain support letters from elected representatives endorsing businesses for all government projects. We wish to congratulate the Chief Minister for his effort in ensuring the administration under his leadership is competent, accountable and transparent. His proactive measure in ensuring utmost performance and quality in his state government should be upheld at all times. We hope all Pakatan Rakyat state government should follow suit in enforcing the "no business support letters" policy as such practice would soon lead to power abuse and corruption if issuance of such letters are not checked and monitored. And the Selangor state government should also take the advice from Parliamentary Opposition Leader and State Economic Advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who recently suggested issuance of support letters for government tenders should stopped in order to avoid further abuse...

Sime Darby GM charged with graft. But no affirmative results

Sime Darby's general manager for business development, investments and investment projects Zamri Mohd Iderus was today charged in the Sessions Court here with two counts of selling company information. The court set September 29 for further mention of his corruption trial. So what? This is only a beginning. And we are still saying that the MACC is not doing enough to get rid of such negative elements from the government, its agencies and wholly-own companies. In the case of Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ), it is only Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik charged, what about the others who had collaborated with him, what about those on top there who had acknowledged and allowed his move to do so? Why are these crooks still free outside there. Same goes to this Sime Darby case, why only a general manager alone was charge? We are certain that there are other accomplice as well, has his bosses being scrutinized on this case? Just like Tun Ling, Zamri could not have done so many wonders like that for year...

Ronnie-Tee struggle must settle soonest

The Selangor DAP factional fighting had now come to a final blow, its Klang parliamentary liaison committee chairman Tee Boon Hock was expelled from the party for alleged misused of a state exco's official letterhead. While the self-proclaimed victim, state executive councillor Ronnie Liu made a police report over his official letterheads being misused, the DAP disciplinary committee is also conducting its own investigation onto this case. We all know this is no ordinary case at all. We all know that Ronnie and Tee were once allies in the party and the latter eventually left the other's office due to some issues. And after that Tee was said to be going closer to another DAP leader Teng Chang Khim who is also the Selangor state assembly speaker. This is a very clear factional fight between two prominent groups in the Selangor DAP following the upcoming party election in the state which is scheduled to commence this mid of August. Each of these leaders are gearing up for the part...

Bumi discount: Umno Youth lodges police report to safeguard its wealth and political interests

Image
Selangor Umno Youth today lodged a police report against DAPā€™s publicity chief Tony Pua over the latterā€™s call for bumiputra discounts for high-end property purchase to be abolished. The report was lodged by the Selangor Umno Youth information head Safarizul Mustafa, who was accompanied by about 30 party supporters, at the Ampang Jaya police station. According to Safarizul, the Petaling Jaya Utara MP's proposal was considered as very dangerous, provocative and inciting racial hatred. Besides, he also alleged that Pua had also insulted the Federal Constitution which guarantees the special rights for bumiputra. We want to ask this Safarizul, what does he mean by "very dangerous, provocative and inciting racial hatred" in his statement? In which part of Pua's proposal that had clearly and proven to be "very dangerous, provocative and inciting racial hatred"? Did Pua ever suggest that the entire segment of the bumiputra's special rights to be abolished? We w...

Stop all recommendation and support letters

From all the recent fiasco which involve the case of recommendation and support letters, it can be seen very clear that it had lead to some abuses when these letters were issued to too many aspiring contractors and businessmen who were out to gain as many contact jobs as possible from the government. Just take a look at the current one, where a state executive councillor's letterhead was being used by another person who signed on behalf of the state executive councillor. To say it is completely wrong to sign on behalf, it would not right but to say it is a right thing to do, would not reason that such practices were good or whatsoever. First of all why all these recommendation and support letters? Well, as we had all known such practices has been in place ever since the BN starts governing our nation and the states. It has already been a something like culture or norm since then. It has been made a must to have such letters for all those aspiring contractors and businessmen. Why do...

Sticking to Principles

As we cross our fingers that the cap will hold, what can we say about the over three month oil leak in the Gulf and its implications for corporate responsibility (CR)? A simple but powerful message emerges - leadership matters. Leaders must set an authentic tone from the top, supported by example, and buttressed by the commitment to oversee the implementation of clear policies, incentives, and controls. BP's Tony Hayward, and before him John Browne, showed a contrast in leadership. Under Browne, the emphasis was on outreach - bold media campaigns, heretical positions on climate change and transparency, and groundbreaking programs from solar energy to community engagement. The company won praise, awards, and was featured in best practice case studies. Under Hayward, BP adopted a quieter leadership style focused - in terrible irony - on safety while still preserving the strong reputation positioning built through Browne's outreach. The balance has not held. Browne boldly reached...

Suhakam: Right to assemble denied - Federal Constitution "powerless", an insult!

The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) yesterday held that the public right to peaceful assembly has been blatantly and violently denied by the authorities during Sunday nightā€™s candlelight vigil in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Internal Security Act. "The arrest of 30 people for suspected participation in the vigil held at Dataran Petaling Jaya was a violation of their human rights to peaceful assembly," said Suhakam chairman Tan Sri Hasmy Agam in a statement today. "Suhakam was present on site to monitor the situation and we noted that the authorities did not give the crowd proper warning or ample time to disperse (before taking action)," said Hasmy. More than 100 policemen and special branch personnel were reported to have cordoned off the area to deter the public from taking part in what police claimed was an illegal assembly. Hasmy said the police should practise non-violent methods of crowd control or dispersal, in the event that they...

The police over reacted and provocative

Image
From what we had observe in the two major candlelight vigils at both Selangor and Penang states, we found that the police had in fact dangerously over reacted and being too provocative towards the peaceful gatherings that mark the 50 years of ISA and the call for it to be abolished. Why do we say that the police had dangerously over reacted and being too provocative? It is because those people who gathered at these two major venues do not show any sign nor having any intention of disturbing the public order and threatening security of others. This candlelight vigils and gatherings were actually not "protest" at all as claimed by the police. If there were a protest, it would be sounded like a demonstration, and when such action were there, those people would had the intention to provoke, to harm and in this way these action would be deemed as threatening the security and public order. But in those events happened on 1 August, there were not at all. It is merely a peaceful gath...

Another death at the MACC office?

Image
A retired officer from the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) was found dead yesterday at the Sarawak's state Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters at the Sultan Iskandar Building, Jalan Simpang Tiga, Kuching. The retired IRB officer who was believed to had plunged to his death was found dead with a pool of blood on the roofing of the first floor at the Sultan Iskandar Building. This is the second death reported to have occurred at a state MACC headquarters. A year ago, a political assistant to a Selangor state executive councillor was found dead at the state MACC headquarters in Shah Alam. The mysterious death of the political assistant has yet to be clearly determined after a year of the magistrate inquest appointed to probe on the murder. So MACC, you have yet to resolve a death case at your Selangor headquarters and suddenly another man was found dead at your Sarawak headquarters. You have got a lot to explain to the general public because this involve the person...

Abolish ISA, Abolish BN Dictatorship, Disband the BN Government

Image
We wish to inform our readers and supporters, if you are one of ours i.e. supporting the call to abolish the ISA, paste this picture ( above ) onto your websites, blogs, facebook, wallpaper and make as your tag. You do not have to come out, or to show your face, to demonstrate, or to gather in group as we knew and understood that you have your jobs, families, children, your parents and grandparents to care for. Therefore as to mark your undivided support and solidarity towards our continuous fight to have the ISA abolish and to uphold our social-democracy, you may copy this picture and paste onto your most relevant and visible sites. To Abolish ISA, we must seek to Abolish the BN Dictatorship and to do that we must first seek to Disband the BN Government.

What's wrong with lighting up candles?

Image
We would like to forward this question to the authorities. What is wrong with lighting up candles in a smooth and peaceful candlelight vigil to mark our displeasure over the draconian Internal Security Act (ISA) and its law of detention without trial? From what we had observed, all those participants who came forward to form a very peaceful candlelight vigil came from all walks of life, ordinary people, professionals, bank employees, factory workers, accountants, businessmen, housewives, mothers and the elders. These are all ordinary Malaysian citizens who are concerned of the well-being of their nation where they are born and grown up. They concerned of the future of their country, they are all concerned of the future of their children, their grandchildren and their next generations to come. And that is why they were all at the candlelight vigil nationwide yesterday to express their displeasure over the harsh and draconian ISA which must be abolish at all cost. The authorities, partic...

Don't play with guns, Ahmad Maslan!

Image
This morning, the Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan told Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua not to "play with fire" by proposing the scrapping of discounts for Bumiputera for the purchase of commercial and luxury properties. We also would like to inform and remind Ahmad Maslan not to "play with guns" when addressing such issues. The Umno information chief's statement is like issuing a warning to the DAP MP that he would be harmed if the later were to proceed with his opinion and proposal. An opinion and a proposal are just opinion and proposal. If Ahmad or Maslan is trying to make this issue a very big one, calling out Umno leaders, members and supporters to come out in full force to demonstrate, issuing threats and waving the "keris" vowing to soak it with someone's blood, then he is really "playing with guns". In fact, Ahmad Maslan is making his statement like he is a mob leader. And if all those Umno or Perkasa goons really come out in ...

Singapore Malay daily teaches Mahathir about hardwork

Image
The former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's assumption that Malays in Singapore had failed and their neighbouring Malays should take lesson from their plight has not impressed a Singaporean daily. The republic's Malay daily Berita Harian in an editorial said Malay-Muslims in the republic state were successful and it was a result of their real efforts and hard work in line with the values of meritocracy, not a result of being spoon-fed. ā€œWe do not believe in being spoon-fed or being too dependent on the government - in other words, we do not have a crutch mentality,' wrote editor Guntor Sadali. Guntor said Singapore Malays believed that a community with such a mentality would soon become a ā€œtwo Mā€ community, which stands for ā€˜manjaā€™ (spoilt), and ā€˜malasā€™ (lazy). ā€œWe definitely do not want to be labelled as a pampered and lazy community,ā€ he said, adding that the Malay community in the island raised their own funds to build Islamic schools, mosques and other community pro...
