BN constituency coordinators - undermining democracy and insult to the King, Rulers

In aftermath of the last general election on March 2008, the Barisan Nasional (BN) had lost many seats in both parliamentary and state legislative assemblies. Besides, they had also lost few of the states to the opposition Pakatan Rakyat.

In response to their election defeats, the Umno-led BN federal government choose not to recognize the mandates given by the people, i.e. by electing more Pakatan Rakyat representatives into the parliament and state legislative assemblies.

To avenge the people's mandates (of rejecting these BN candidates), the BN federal government, under the guise of the prime minister's department appointed all these defeated BN election candidates to become BN parliamentary and state constituency coordinators to manage their respective "constituencies", providing them with annual grants and allocations like the ones enjoyed by the BN MPs and state assemblymen, thus completely denying all the constitutional rights of those Pakatan Rakyat MPs and state assemblymen of their annual grants, allocations and other funding.

In order to have these so-called BN coordinators to serve their respective "constituencies", the prime minister's department had allocated a large amount of funds as salaries for them in form of positions with some titles such as "federal representatives to the parliamentary/KADUN" or "the prime minister's department representatives to the parliamentary/KADUN" areas.

The action carried out by BN in such way clearly reflects their refusal to recognize the people's mandate and the democratic process. Besides, the BN action is also deemed to have insulted the democratic institution as well as the Yang Dipertuan Agung, the Sultans and the Yang Dipertua Negeris.

Why do we considered these an insult to the democratic institution as well as the Yang Dipertuan Agung, the Sultans and the Yang Dipertua Negeris? It is because all these elected MPs and state assemblymen were elected by the people via democratic process of a general election then upon election, these MPs and state assemblymen were sworn in before the Yang Dipertuan Agung, the Sultans and the Yang Dipertua Negeris.

Besides undermining democracy and insulting the Rulers, the BN federal government is also wasting the public funds by providing salaries to all these defeated election candidates to act as BN constituency coordinators to their respective areas that they are "representing". Instead of using those monies to finance various developments for the benefit of our people and to help the poor, these funds were blatantly used in such way in order to advance their mere political interests.

In this case, we urge the BN federal government to come clean and make public the accounts and transactions of various allocations and funds channeled to all these defeated BN candidates who are now acting as your so-called constituency coordinators in those parliamentary and state constituencies currently held by Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives.
