The police over reacted and provocative

From what we had observe in the two major candlelight vigils at both Selangor and Penang states, we found that the police had in fact dangerously over reacted and being too provocative towards the peaceful gatherings that mark the 50 years of ISA and the call for it to be abolished.

Why do we say that the police had dangerously over reacted and being too provocative? It is because those people who gathered at these two major venues do not show any sign nor having any intention of disturbing the public order and threatening security of others.

This candlelight vigils and gatherings were actually not "protest" at all as claimed by the police. If there were a protest, it would be sounded like a demonstration, and when such action were there, those people would had the intention to provoke, to harm and in this way these action would be deemed as threatening the security and public order.

But in those events happened on 1 August, there were not at all. It is merely a peaceful gathering of which we could considered as very social like as it involves those from all walks of life. Did you see any gangsters there? Did you see any drug addicts there? Did you see any of those like hardcore criminals there? How do they dress up? How did these people behave? Their looks, faces and features. Just look at each of everyone of these men and women, young men and girls, office workers, those who wore long sleeve with their neck ties on, family men, housewives, mothers and even grandfathers.

Do all these people looks like as it they are or have the intention to disturb public order or planning to create unrest and destruction in the gathering? No! None at all. They all came from all corners of the states as a simple and ordinary humans to show their solidarity and profound support to have an oppressive law called ISA to be abolished in the name of justice, freedom, democracy and human rights.

It was the police who had over reacted dangerously and being too provocative in both scenes. The police officers who were in charge gave orders in a manner that they were handling a gang of criminals on the loose. Uttering the words "amaran", "serang", "tangkap", "tahan", "hentam", "tembak", "jangan mencabar" and doing all the shouting were all unnecessary and not being reasonable at all. The uttering of all these words are in fact provoking those people.

Why are the police treating these people like that? They are all civilized, educated and some were even highly educated ones as well as professionals in their respective fields.

Just take a look at how the police officers in Hong Kong (especially good), Macau, Japan, United Kingdom, France and the United States work in managing groups of peaceful protesters, light demonstrations and banner carrying protests. They handle these kind of groups and gathering in a professional and humane way.

Now talk about justice and fairness, did our police acted in a fair and just manner? No, indeed not at all. When some extremists and racist minded groups of mobsters organized an illegal assembly by carrying a cow-head with an intention to provoke another race and religion, the police had in fact failed to act against these dangerous groups but instead stood some distance away and just watching them without doing anything to ensure law and order as well as the safety of other people who were cursed and unreasonably shouted at by these extremists and racist minded groups of mobsters. Why did the police failed to disperse such a dangerous and overly violent demonstration then?

Another example, when the Penang state government announced its plan to implement an open tender system in the state to select contractors for its projects, these same kind of extremists and racist minded groups of mobsters held their illegal massive demonstration in front of the state's administrative center in KOMTAR, shouting, cursing and chanting racist slogans of hate, violent, revenge and threatened to repeat the 13 May racial riot.

And the police did nothing to stop all these crimes and unlawful acts at all. What they did was standing by some distance away and watching the fun. No effective preventive measures were carried out to prevent that illegal demonstration from turning into a massive out of control situation. Is it because there were Umno top leaders involved and leading this illegal massive demonstration and that is why the police dare not act to disperse them?

When those who are really violent, racist and criminal minded, the police acted passively on them by trying to negotiate for truce, but when those who were peaceful, loving and kind people who were trying to gather for a social cause, the police acted aggressively against them by making massive arrests and throwing them into lock-ups and jails like hardcore criminals.

Is this call fair and just? Its your say.
