Separate dialogues are ineffective
The Gerakan president and minister in the prime minister's department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said that the federal government has been meeting with the religious groups prior to the attacks, which came after the Dec 31 High Court ruling that Catholic weekly Herald has the constitutional right to use the word “Allah” to describe the Christian God in their Bahasa Malaysia section.
“We have had discussions with every group separately, even before this but as you could understand, every faith has different groupings with different views" according to Dr Koh.
What is the use of having these dialogues separately? You cannot exchange views effectively. It is just like not having it at all. If you have it separately, are you able to record those feedback and translate them accurately and effectively to the other religious groups and will they be able to fully understand your interpretation entirely?
Definitely not, because each of us will have our view and words when translating it and if your views could not really understand the feedback of the others, how are you going to conduct the interpretation to the other groups accurately and effectively.
We want to remind Dr Koh, if Gerakan, Umno and the BN federal government are really serious of preserving the national unity and maintaining a harmonious religious environment, engage all religious groups together, establish the Inter-Faith Commission (IFC) and implement the Race and Religious Relations Act.
It has been proven. The Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs and Taoist are able to engage in a common body via the Malaysian Consultative Council for Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) in a very fruitful manner and it has been very effective ever since their inception.
Why can't the BN federal government do it together with the MCCBCHST? Because you are lack of self-confidence and again doubtful of their own faith? Or simply because you are not sincere enough in this subject. Please ask yourselves again.
Dr Koh, as Gerakan president, your party is known to actively emphasize on non-racial approach and working hard to achieve a Bangsa Malaysia identity. You even initiated an Anak Malaysia campaign in order to reach your goal for a more non-racial approach Malaysia. Did you ask yourself, whether you had succeed in your quest?
No, you had failed. Not because Gerakan had failed. It is because Gerakan is still in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition which was dominated by Umno, an ultra-racist party with aimed of promoting and preserving only the "ketuanan" for themselves. And you merely listen to them without a view of your own. You must always say yes to them as being part of the BN coalition.
If you and Gerakan are serious of the Bangsa Malaysia concept, then quit the BN fold.
