Resist hatred, pray for peace

The Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) and the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hindusim, Sikhism and Taoism have condemned the recent attacks on places of worship.

“We are aghast at the on-going desecration of places of worship by acts of arson and vandalism, the latest of which affected two surau in Muar,” said CFM chairman Bishop Ng Moon Hing.

“We urge the police to investigate and swiftly bring to justice such perpetrators of violence against houses of worship, be it churches, temples, gurdwaras, mosques and surau,” he said in a statement.

Since the High Court decision on Dec 31 that the Catholic weekly Herald could use the word “Allah” in its Bahasa Malaysia publication, several churches and a gurdwara have been the target of arson attacks and vandalism. Two surau also fell victim on Thursday.

Home minister and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said they had not dismissed the possibility that the arson attacks in Muar were committed by detractors of 1Malaysia to derail the concept and cause unrest in the country.

We wish to remind Datuk Hishammuddin not to point his fingers and blame other people for those violence but himself, his party Umno and entire Barisan Nasional machinery as well. You are to be blamed because you had stated earlier that you as home minister cannot stop those demonstrations and angers over the "Allah" issue. You encouraged these attacks.

Who create all these troubles and problems, it was Perkasa, Pekida, PPIM, MCMA, Badai, AMIS and Jakim as well. These are the real troublemakers who are creating havoc in our country. But none of these NGO leaders were arrested nor detained for their active roles in organizing the nationwide illegal rallies and demonstrations. Why? It is because these organizations are all Umno-linked.
