Roadblock at Penang bridge created a massive traffic jam
A police-led roadblock near the Penang Bridge last Thursday and Friday had created a massive traffic jam on the bridge. According to the police the purpose of the roadblock was to nab those errant factory buses and vans who operated without permits or with expired ones.
Besides creating a massive traffic jam on the bridge, the police roadblock had also created a nuisance to the road users who are on their way home from their offices in Penang Island. The other issue is the roadblock also caused a few minor accidents in the middle of the bridge due to the constant slow moving of vehicles.
First of all why the police organized this roadblock to create problems for innocent road users? Can't the police hold operation to nab those errant factory buses and vans elsewhere and why has it got to be on the Penang bridge? You know the Penang bridge is not only being used by the factory buses and vans but also other road users and motorist as well.
After a day's work in the office, our workers need to return home to take their meal and rest in order to refresh themselves for another day's work, but instead the police who are only thinking of nabbing the bus and van drivers is making the other innocent motorist suffer as well, just because they wanted to show off their powers to the public.
What about those minor accidents on the bridge which was caused by the traffic jam? It is because those motorists became too tired due to the heavy traffic jam created by the police and because they are over exhausted on the road, they lost their focus and these accidents happened. Can the police be responsible for all these mishaps?
We want to ask the police, can't they organize these operation by verifying these errant factory bus drivers and van operators online with the help of the Road Tranport Department (JPJ) and the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB). If one's permit, license or road tax expired and it was not renewed for some time, it is definitely shown in their system that these buses and vans are operating without their permits, license and road tax being renewed.
And from there you can organize a hunt on the respective errant drivers by looking for them at their respective registered addresses. You do not have to ask the other innocent motorist to share the burden for you after all but all these while you are doing it just for the sake of demonstrating your powers.
In this case, the police should sit down and review their methods of operations again in order to come up with a better way of solution to achieve their operations and objectives without having to further burdening the other road users and motorists during their enforcement duties.
