UM grads occupy admin building, demand fresh campus polls
Pro-Mahasiswa graduates cry foul over their elections defeat in Universiti Malaya (UM), claims the election was rigged by the university's administration and demand answers from vice-chancellor.
To make their dissatisfaction and demands heard, the UM graduates occupied the university's administration building to seek for the answers of a possible fraud in the university's elections. The pro-Aspirasi students groups believed to be heavily funded by the BN had earlier won the majority seats in the student's representative council in the recently concluded campus elections.
So, what about the elections in the other universities, like Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), etc? All rigged by the university's administration and their vice-chancellors on the instruction of the director-general of higher education who receives his order from the minister of higher education?
If the elections are carried out in a fair and transparent manner, will all these students come out in full force to voice their dissatisfaction and doubts? Will these students just come out to seek justice for nothing? It shows that something had went wrong.
Just look at these BN people. They are putting even the basic into dictatorship by putting away democratic ideas and practices from the students. There are no transparency at all! The deputy prime minister and Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin said the people should not mock the BN's so-called Government Transformation Programme (GTP) as the government is becoming more open.
What kind of openness is Muhyiddin talking about? There are even no openness nor democracy in the public universities' elections and now you wanted to talk about GTP had made your government more "open"? You are teaching our young ones to shred democracy and embrace dictatorship so that you can control the nation with your iron fist forever.
We sincerely hope that the pro-Mahasiswa students and supporters will continue to shoulder and fight on in order to preserve democracy, freedom, justice and equality.
