DPM said Interfaith Commission not required
The Umno-led BN federal government has no plan to set up an Inter-faith Commission at the moment, Deputy Prime Minister and Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin even mentioned “We don’t need an inter-faith commission. At the moment we don’t feel that it is something necessary".That means Umno and BN preferred an informal dialogue on inter-faith because they are not serious to promote a long term racial and religious harmony for fear they might loose out in their quest to regain support from the Malay community.
Since the inter-faith dialogue will be an informal one, Umno will still hold the racial card firmly and would play them whenever required in order to stir up support for their party.
Umno did not want the inter-faith commission (IFC) to be formalized for fear relevant laws leading to the control of ethnic relations will be introduced in future to stamp out racism and religious extremism which are mostly initiated by them.
