Umno uses Thaipusam to discredit Selangor State Government
To intensify their effort to retake Selangor at all cost, Umno had came up with number of master plans like getting MACC officers to frequently ambush the state government's machinery and its officials for any alleged corrupt practice, playing up as many racial sentiments as possible like the cow-head incident and the bombing of churches in the state by religious and racist extremists believed to be sponsored by the dominant party of the BN coalition.
Besides, Umno is also working very hard to ensure its former menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo is not indicted of any corruption charges for fear it might further tarnish the image of the party. Efforts has been work out behind close doors with the MACC in order not to implicate Dr Khir on his past misdeeds and mismanagement of the state public funds.
And during Thaipusam, Umno even used this religious event to discredit the Pakatan-led Selangor state government by giving instructions to its police force to remove the state government's host status for the religious event at Batu Caves on grounds of "national security" reasons.
Actually, Umno had wanted their party president Najib Razak to take to the stage at the Thaipusam's venue in Batu Caves in order to regain support of the Indian community and to sideline as well as to sabotage efforts carried by the state government to assist the Indian community in the state.
Umno and its partners in BN lost Selangor to Pakatan Rakyat in the last general elections held on March 2008 and Umno has been seen as initiating on various strategies to avenge its defeat to retake control of the country's richest state by all means, even if they had to resort to another coup d'etat, like what they did to Perak last year.
This is the core reason why Umno hijacked the Thaipusam in Batu Caves.
