Let PSM Contest in the GE13 With Its Logo

Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) had planned to contest in 1 parliamentary seat and 3 state state seats in the coming general elections (GE13). In the last general elections, PSM had won the Sungai Siput parliamentary and the Kota Damansara state seats in Perak and Selangor respectively under the PKR banner as PSM was refused registration by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) at that time.

Apart from having won these two seats, PSM had also contested in the Jelapang (Perak) and Semenyih (Selangor) state seats but lost both in a three-corner contest. Recently, PSM had also submitted its application to join the opposition Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition. However, to-date, PR has yet to accept PSM officially into its fold.

Then, PSM had also voiced their intention to defend the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat and Kota Damansara state seat under the PSM logo as well as to recontest Jelapang and Semenyih state seats respectively. In Sungai Siput and Kota Damansara, both PSM elected representatives had provided their best service to the people. In fact, both of them are people and grassroot-oriented politicians who are always on the ground for the people and voters in their respective areas

Sungai Siput is currently held by PSM central committee member Dr Michael Jeyakumar while PSM chairman Dr Nasir Hashim held the Kota Damansara seat. Since 2008, PSM has been working hand-in-hand with component parties of PR. In fact, PSM election machineries had also assisted PR in their election campaigns. Until today, PSM activists has also been active participating in most PR ceramahs and campaigns rounds nationwide. Indeed, PSM had contributed tirelessly in its effort to get our people's support for PR and they are still doing it today.

So, PSM has been registered by the ROS in the middle of 2008, and they had also lodged the usage of their party logo to the Elections Commission (EC) in order for them to contest in the next general elections using their own logo. Then, why does PSM need to use the DAP or PKR logo if they were to contest again in this GE13? PR reasoned PSM's logo as being too socialistic which is similar to that of "communism". This kind of excuse is unreasonable.

First of all, why blame PSM for being a kind of  "communist" when they are actually not? We urge the PR leadership to check the facts first before they give anymore excuses of PSM being some kind of so-called "communism". It is also very undemocratic in nature for requesting another legally registered political party to contest under the banner of another political party.

PSM had proven track record in both Sungai Siput and Kota Damansara respectively. DAP had contested in Jelapang (2008), and its state assemblyman has defected to the BN a year later, PKR had also contested in Semenyih in 2008 and lost to BN. In this case, why can't PR allow PSM to contest in order to prove themselves in both Jelapang and Semenyih?

We urge PR not to be overly ego on their popularity. You will lost your supporters if your egoistic turn into arrogance. Adopt a give-and-take approach to show the people that you are politically accommodative. Greatness in politics is not always the solution.

Everyone of us knew, BN had translated their egoistic into arrogance. Are you going to repeat your rival's ego and arrogance?
