Kit Siang scaring away MCA candidate from Gelang Patah
As the DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang has confirmed his candidacy to contest in the Gelang Patah parliamentary constituency in Johor, MCA the incumbent party currently holding the parliamentary constituency is look set to chicken out from the contest with the DAP veteran.
Instead, MCA had decided to past the parliamentary seat candidacy to outgoing Johor menteri besar Abdul Ghani Othman to contest against Kit Siang. It looks like MCA is so scared of the DAP leader until the Chinese-based party has decided to swap their seat with Umno and it shows that the Umno candidate (Abdul Ghani) would be the "winnable" candidate rather than the MCA's candidacy.
Several Johor-based incumbent BN members of parliament also believed that Abdul Ghani would be the most ideal and credible candidate to fight Kit Siang in the seat which they considered would be the hottest seat in the state.
The question here, is Kit Siang scaring away the MCA candidate from the Gelang Patah parliamentary constituency until the later has to give up the seat to avoid a shameful episode? According to MCA president Chua Soi Lek, by letting Abdul Ghani to contest the said parliamentary constituency would mean, if he wins, would prove that he is a "menteri besar" for all races.
But what Chua has forgotten that is, Abdul Ghani would be putting up a fight in a parliamentary seat and not a state legislative seat, therefore, Chua has uttered the word "menteri besar for all races" by mistake, because he might have been overly excited after letting go the most risky seat that MCA had ever got.
What is the other side of the story in Umno have for Abdul Ghani. Source from the party's insider had confirmed that Umno leadership has wanted to take off Abdul Ghani as Johor menteri besar as his relationship with the Sultan of Johor has been strained since. It is not clear what had caused the quarrel between Abdul Ghani and the Sultan.
It seems, there are now two factors in the BN on their candidacy for Gelang Patah parliamentary seat contest. First, MCA is chicken it out as they do not have an ideal or credible candidate to fight it out while the second thing here is, as Abdul Ghani's relationship with the Sultan has been strained since, Umno think that it would be better if they pull him off from leading the state administration by letting him contesting in the most risky seat as some sort of sacrificial deal. If Abdul Ghani is lucky enough he may win the contest, but if he loses the seat to Kit Siang, then Umno has nothing to lose at all.
Well, we all hope that the people of Gelang Patah would vote with wisdom in this coming general elections in order to ensure that their new representation would be meaningful and effective to the people and the nation at large.
