EC should explain, why 1Malaysia flags are used for BN campaigning instead of BN flags
We all know that the nomination day would be on this weekend, and the date for the general elections has also being confirmed by the Elections Commission (EC). Asides giving the dates for the nomination and general elections, the EC has also reminded all political parties campaigning should abide by the electoral rules and laws.
However, the ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional (BN) had choose to ignore the instructions laid down by the EC. Observations around many areas and towns found that there are more 1Malaysia flags being hoisted instead of BN flags. When the question was put to one of the BN campaign workers, they merely replied, "1Malaysia is BN and BN is 1Malaysia, they are all the same".
But in accordance to the electoral law, only the flags and banners of the contesting political parties are only allowed to be displayed. Is 1Malaysia a political party? Are there any candidates contesting under the 1Malaysia banner? Did the BN register the 1Malaysia emblem with the EC as one of its elections campaigning logo or emblem?
As far as we knew, the 1Malaysia concept and its emblem are initiated under the government program. Public funds consist of billions of Ringgit has been spent to initiate and promote the 1Malaysia concept nationwide. It has been widely used in government agencies, departments, and the emblem is even being utilized by the mobile police station (van) and on military vehicles as well. It has been also been widely displayed in schools, billboards and government premises as well. This emblem is considered as government property, since public funds has been used to initiate this program.
So, how come BN has taken over the ownership of this 1Malaysia emblem for its campaigns in the general elections? The EC ought to look into this matter as soon as possible as the displaying of 1Malaysia flags for the purpose of campaigning for the BN are in contradiction with the existing electoral laws. The municipal, city and district council enforcement personnel should also take appropriate action in taking down all these 1Malaysia flags which has been unlawfully displayed for elections campaigning (for the BN) as such actions are now law abiding at all.
Anyway, if the EC or the municipal, city and district council enforcements were to initiate actions against BN for displaying the 1Malaysia flags for its elections campaign, BN leaders would systematically deny that those 1Malaysia flags are their, reasoning that, "they are the BN supporters and we cannot control them". This is the usual excuse they are always giving.
By the way, is EC really going to act against the BN for breaking such rules by displaying the 1Malaysia instead of BN flags? We doubt that.
