PSM's logo is perfect, no confusion
We wish to refer to the statement made by the PKR advisor and parliamentary opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim pertaining to the use of the Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) logo in the coming 13th general election.
According to Anwar, the PSM's logo would confuse the people and the white fist symbol could be seen as something else such as communism and might draw supporters away from voting. We wish to ask the opposition leader, in what way was the PSM logo may confuse the people? What makes the PSM logo look something like communism? Doesn't Anwar realize that the hammer and the sickle is the actual symbol of communism?
Yes, we do realize that many people often mistaken socialism as part of communism. Socialism is the ideology based on the social needs of our people and socialism does not reject the process of democracy, while communism is a sort of socialism in the hurry as it would achieve its objectives via revolution instead of going through the democracy channel.
Asides, another mistaken identity on both socialism and communism is issues pertaining to religion. Both ideology does not against religion at all in actual fact. Both socialism and communism are only against religion being used in the administration or governance of the nation.
In the case of the PSM logo, we understood that PSM has file an application recently to join the opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat in order to help fight Barisan Nasional (BN) come next general elections. In dealing with the PSM's application, we supposed Anwar might have been ill-advised on the PSM's party objective and its ideology, or maybe some quarters from within Pakatan may not want PSM's entry into the opposition coalition so that the allocation of seats to be contested would not be re-distributed to PSM.
As such, Anwar should use his wisdom instead of solely depending on the views of his advisers pertaining to the PSM entry. The opposition leader should look at the long term impact for Pakatan be it in politics or the people's needs. As everyone of us had known, PSM is a socialist based political party well-known in the grassroots ranks and within the low-income workforce and it would also benefit Pakatan if PSM were to be given some space in the coalition.
Anyway, it is up to the Pakatan leadership to decide on PSM's application and we hope they would decide PSM's entry as a wise move in order to broaden the people's and the grassroots based of the opposition coalition especially among the lower-income segment.
And if PSM's application to join Pakatan were to be rejected with such unreasonable excuses, we would advise PSM not to waste anymore time. Remember PSM, you still have Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM), Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (KITA) and Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) out there, where you can forge an alliance with. You are not alone.
As for Pakatan's side, your deciding factor should be based on the people's needed and demand instead of the political importance of PKR, DAP or PAS. Remember, it was the people who voted for Pakatan with many seats in the parliament and state legislative assemblies in the last general elections.
