Felda set to waste another RM100 million

Felda has recently announced that they are planning to construct a stadium in order to accommodate the Felda settlers' "sports activities". The cost of the stadium's construction has been mentioned about RM100 million but excluding the other additional costs which may arise in due time.

First of all, what is the sole purpose of constructing a "Felda Stadium"? Then, who will manage the stadium, the settlers or the Felda management team? In what way, would the stadium benefits the Felda settlers nationwide? Or will it only benefits certain parties or cronies from within the Umno circle and Felda management team?

The Felda management under the chairmanship of the former Negri Sembilan menteri besar will have to spell it out clearly on the purpose of the stadium. What he says are too general, in such a way that an adult is merely talking to the kids around. Basically, if you are talking about the one, which will benefit the Felda settlers, in what way or means it will benefit them in the long term? Please remember that, Felda settlers are not concentrated in only one area or state, they are scattered all over the country.

Furthermore, this country now has already got too many stadiums and on many occasions, these stadiums are not one hundred percent full at all. Even a stadium which was constructed in Terengganu last time has collapsed due to poor workmanship, low quality building materials and suspected corruption. And worst still the investigation onto the collapse of the Terengganu stadium is going nowhere and has been forgotten now.

The other thing is, the earlier RM6 billion which Felda has borrowed from the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) in order to accommodate one of its "development" project. What kind of project was that? Until today, the minister-in-charge has yet to come forward to explain what was that RM6 billion EPF loan to Felda for. Even the prime minister himself has refused to explain the allocation of the our people's hard saving to a money-losing agency.

Asides, the Felda Global Ventures Bhd (FGV) whose share has been listed in the Stock Exchange has not see any achievement so far. When the share price went up a bit, it is because the government is putting it some cash to buy it in order to bring up its value. Do we see any investors highlighting their actual or real interests to invest in FGV? No, not at all.

Then, when we go down to most of the Felda lands nationwide, what we saw? Some are even worst than a basic Malay kampung. The roads an drainages are in very bad conditions, power supplies are always being disrupted, so does the water supply, there are no police stations, no established trade markets - people are just trading their businesses by the roadside, there are no proper public facilities, such as schools, housing, colleges, care centres and so on in most of these settlements.

Please note that, whatever we saw from the news report (by RTM, TV3 or NTV7) are merely of those Felda contoh and it does not represent the entire Felda settlements nationwide. It is only window dressing for the sake of publicity and political propaganda purpose.

The RM6 billion of our hard savings which was loan to Felda still remain unexplained, and now they are using up yet another RM100 million for one wasteful project. Whatever Felda got today are the results of the hard work of about 115,000 Felda settlers nationwide and that Umno leader who is at helm of Felda now is using those settlers' hard earn cash and reserves like if it is his own money.

We are very certain that once the so-called "Felda Stadium" is up, it will become yet another white elephant. Who knows, it may also collapse in due time.
