The departure of Tunku Aziz from DAP

Recently, we had seen  and heard the news of Tunku Abdul Aziz's departure from DAP due to his vast differences of opinion with the party's top leaders on the Bersih 3.0 rally. It was a grave surprise and shock to everyone, particularly the leaders of DAP.

And immediately on the following day, the BN government's mainstream medias are quick to highlight such news to their top priority by stating that the DAP national vice-chairman has resigned and quit the party for good because of his principles and integrity. And with all these had made Tunku Aziz a famous star overnight.

First, he was regarded as a traitor of the Malay race and now he is a hero to the same group who had earlier deceived him..

Everyone of us knew who Tunku Aziz was. He was president of Transparency International Malaysia (TIM), an advisor to Bank Negara and also held many positions in the United Nations. His track records were indeed proven then.

Immediately after the 2008 12th general elections, Tunku Aziz has decided to join DAP. He reasoned to his old friend Kit Siang that he needed a platform to fight what he has been upholding. So the party decided to give him a chance by promoting him to become a party national vice-chairman after a day he joined as an ordinary member. Then he was made senator in order to make his "platform" more effective.

Then all the sudden he broke his silence and told the entire nation that he is leaving the party he had joined four years ago just because he was against the Bersih 3.0 rally which he deemed as breaking the law and he could not trust party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng anymore.

And Umno was quick to capitalize the whole issue racially, by saying that Malays in the party were being bullied, make use of and many more negative perceptions.

Let us now go back to what Tunku Aziz has done when he was still in DAP. Has he done anything so far, after his sudden promotion from an ordinary party member to party national vice-chairman? Has he done anything after he was nominated and appointed as senator representing the party's Penang slot?

Well, we knew of his vast contribution before that, but we have not heard of his contribution ever since after he enter politics and became DAP's national vice-chairman. He complained that as a party national vice-chairman, he was not assigned with any task pertaining to the party and politics. What on earth is he talking about? Why must he wait to be spoon fed? Why can't he initiate his political work on his own in order to prove his worth for the party and the nation?

As a party national vice-chairman, has he contributed to the well being of the Malay community and the people of Penang in general? Has he stood up for those who has been unjustly treated? Being a very experience figure in combating corruption, has he ever stand out to speak up against the corrupted forces in the BN government, particularly the recent case of NFC's misused funds?

He mentioned that he is for clean and fair elections, but has he ever voice out against the Elections Commission (EC) and its arrogance for refusing electoral reforms? He mentioned that the Bersih 3.0 rally was particularly against the law, but why didn't he stress against all those Umno and Perkasa leaders who had also broken the law? Why didn't he speak up against Umno and Perkasa extremists who resorted to violence and threats against our peace-loving people who merely wanted reforms to make this country a better place to stay on?

Where is he when the people and the entire nation are in need of such "talented and respected" person with high integrity like him? Yeah, during such critical moment, he is nowhere to be found at all. Missing in Action!

Talking about his opposition to Bersih 3.0 again, he mentioned that he was against it from day one. And if he is really against it, has he ever try to initiate some other alternative channels to bring the people's grievances to the attention of the BN government via his "principled" manner? No, he didn't do anything at all  to contribute to such situation. In fact, he didn't even fully utilize the platform that has been given to him by the party that he joined and asked for.

We supposed he wasn't a good politician anyway as he still behave more towards a bureaucrat. Thank God he is already out of the opposition front today.

As for the DAP, please be reminded of the importance of quality rather than quantity in the party. DAP must ensure that all her members do not sway away from the basics and the origins of their struggles. If the DAP does not keep tab on their current situation, somehow or rather DAP would end up like Gerakan one day.

So, DAP leaders, please buck up!
