PKR must change and enhance its image

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) National Congress which began yesterday with the initial national conventions of its Youth (AMK) and Wanita Wings that was followed by its main National Congress today at the Kota Bahru Trade Centre in Kelantan.

PKR which has been affected by series of defections and betrayals with its members of parliament and state assemblymen leaving the party must work very hard to reinvent and rejuvenate itself, of which it should start from the top leadership themselves.

Given to the fact that PKR membership and its leadership as well today are mostly consist of ex-Umno, MCA and MIC leaders and members must work hard to shed off its ex-Umno or ex-BN images and build up a new image as a strong, formidable and trustworthy opposition party to be at par with its Pakatan Rakyat coalition partners, DAP and PAS.

As such the top leadership of the party must make their first moves, by appointing more from the younger generations to groom them to take the lead in the future. The party old guards must also take the lead to start the reform and changes from their part as well in order to convince the members and voters particularly that the party is still strong.

Younger echelons from the party's youth wing, Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) must be taken into attention and given due serious considerations for various senior positions in the party's National Leadership Council in order to grow and continue its "reformasi" legacy.

Idolizing or worshiping of party leaders should also be done away but instead concentrate the party's effort on national agendas which involves political, economy, the people and the nation.

The party leaders from all levels (national to branches) must also shed off their previous ex-Umno or ex-BN characteristics and learn to be more humble and approachable to the people and the communities as a whole.

No more talking about and hoping for benefits, gaining contracts, getting some allocations, making money, getting extra incomes. These are things and characteristics of the Umno and BN which are considered outdated which can also lead to corrupt elements and practices.

PKR has a lots to learn from its fellow Pakatan Rakyat coalition partners, DAP and PAS who possessed decades of experience in opposition politics, while in turn PKR who consist mostly former administrators of the government must also take the led to guide DAP and PAS in governance since they had already captured few states in the last general election.

PKR, we urge you to walk the talk after your national congress to show and prove to the people that you are serious about what you had mentioned and you are ready for it.

So, get it done as soon as possible and prove it to the people and voters before the 13th general election.
