Is EC really sincere in implementing the postal voting?

After the three Bersih rallies, the Elections Commission (EC) has finally agreed reluctantly to some of the reforms demanded by the people and made many promises to carry out those changes as soon as possible.

However, one after another, until today, we have yet to see any effective changes from the EC and it looks like that somebody up there might be trying to do something so that the entire process and reforms could be delayed until the next general elections (GE13).

The most crucial one is involving the implementation of postal voting for our overseas Malaysians in order to allow them to vote in the GE13, be they students, professionals or business people, whatever it is, the most important thing here is, they are all still Malaysians, regardless of what ethnicity do they belongs to.

Until today, there are still a lots of complaints from our overseas Malaysians who wanted to register themselves as postal voters for the upcoming GE13. Logistical constraints, many kinds of conditional restrictions, bureaucratic procedures, inconsistent information or replies from the Malaysian embassies and consulate staffs and worst still, uncooperative manner of these embassies and consulate staffs when they fail to respond to inquiries made by these overseas Malaysians pertaining to the procedures and aspects related to the postal voters' registration process.

Apart from all those unbecoming attitudes of our civil servants abroad, there is also insufficient information on how one can register or vote, where and when as most of these information came from privately owned websites or online news portals and the actual information did not from any of the government websites. Therefore, some of this information obtained varying and confusing at all with no full verification from neither the embassies, consulate nor the EC side.

One big question mark here, is the EC really sincere in carrying our these implementation or electoral reforms? The BN government had on many occasions mentioned that they are committed, but to-date, they have yet to even show their political will to carry out all these reforms. Then, how are we going to put the trust on the BN by returning them to Putrajaya come GE13?

Anyway, the clear fact here is, all those constraints, restrictions, bureaucratic procedures and inaccurate details pertaining to the implementation of this postal voting system had delay much of the registration process of our overseas Malaysians, and we believed that the majority of them would not be able to vote in the upcoming GE13.

One last reminder to EC, your primary responsibilities are to enfranchise voters, not to alienate them. And if you are doing the other way round, your actions are definitely contravening with our people's rights as enshrined under our nation's Federal Constitution.
