More disruptions at political events likely, warns Umno vice-president
Umno vice-president and home affairs minister Hishammuddin Hussein warned that more political ceramah disruptions are likely to take place in the soon-to-be 13th general elections (GE13). Well his statement in his capacity as the home affairs minister, taking charge of the police force and the public safety is such an unbecoming and he does not demonstrate his professionalism as a government minister. He is instead demonstrating his action more in the interest of his party rather than to the nation and our people at large.
Obviously, we are very certain that everyone of us knew since from the beginning most of the Opposition political events and ceramahs are being disrupted by members of the Barisan Nasional (BN), particularly of those from Umno and its NGO-ally Perkasa.
Just look at what happened to the Opposition campaign team who are on their rounds peacefully trying their level best to inform our people the actual political, social and economic situation of our nation. Their campaign trails are always been blocked, disrupted, threatened, their vehicles were damaged, burned and very often Opposition members and supporters are being openly threatened by these Umno and Perkasa thugs who are "certified above the law and the constitution". Why? It is because of Umno and Perkasa's supremacy, as they reign supreme over the others, even the rulers are afraid of them. Look, even the Penang chief minister and his family are also being threatened and the authorities did not even care about this, because Hishammuddin hinted that those thugs have their "democratic rights" too.
Maybe, the Umno vice-president is trying to give an indirect hint (some sort of soft warning) to the Oppositions and our people that we all should expect to see BN members and supporters (Umno and Perkasa) causing more disruptions if the Oppositions were to continue actively pursuing their activities or events and our people were to insist in supporting the Oppositions till the end.
Rather than dropping such hints or issuing indirect threats, this home affairs minister should provide the required confidence to our people and to assure that a peaceful environment prevails at all political campaigns and events, be it the ruling party or the opposition parties.
We know that Hishammuddin is also the Umno vice-president but he must also remember that he is also a government minister in charge of the home affairs, which means, he is duty bound to ensure the safety and security of our people in the current democratic environment of our nation. This is democracy. If members and supporters of the BN who are the ones who are breaking the law, these lawbreakers should be taken in according to the existing law and order. Isn't that called "serving by example"? But instead, Hishammuddin is only "serving by interests".
Apart from that, the home affairs minister's action is clearly showing to our people that he is also condoning to violence and threats by suggesting that those violence and disruptions would continue and beyond his control. His words were so much similar to that issued by the Penang Umno youth chief Shaik Hussein Mydin who had recently issued a stern warning that "there will be trouble, not from Umno but we cannot control them". This means they knew that there will be soon be trouble or disruptions as all these has been pre-planned in the first place.
In other words, it looks so obvious that both Hishammuddin and Umno are also insulting the members of the police force and the armed service for theirs lack of readiness in dealing with our nation's security and public order. Remember what Hishammuddin said, "those Suluk intruders were neither terrorist nor militants", and in the end of the day, more and more of our police officers got killed and mutilated by these monsters. Isn't that insulting the intelligence of the police force as well?
