SUPP president blames BN's unjust policies for defeat

Recently defeated SUPP president Tan Sri Dr George Chan has deliberately blamed the state and federal government’s failure to listen to the people’s grouses as the reason for the party’s unprecedented loss in the Sarawak state election.

Dr Chan, who unexpectedly lost to DAP newcomer Ling Sie Kiong by 1,590 votes in Piasau constituency, said Barisan Nasional (BN) had also reacted “too little too late” to correct the “unjust and unfair policies”.

“I am very sad over what has happened. We acknowledge that some of the policies in place now are unfair. SUPP tried very hard to speak up against these injustices and correct them but apparently, it was too little too late."

Dr Chan spoke like what Gerakan president Dr Koh Tsu Koon and the then MCA presidents had said. Same old grandfather reasons of blaming their main BN coalition when their parties lost to the opposition.

Come on Dr Chan, if the state BN government and Putrajaya did not listen to you on some unjust policies, why still stay in the BN coalition? Why still act as running dogs for Umno and PBB until the very day of the state election where you have been defeated? Same goes to Gerakan and MCA too!

Because you want to hold on to your ministerial posts? That means you are not being sincere in speaking up for your people. If you are a leader with strong principles, you should have left the BN coalition long time ago, like what Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and its president Yong Teck Lee did.

Yong brought his SAPP out from the BN coalition after the Sabah state government failed to address the continuous influx of illegal immigrants and many problems faced by the various communities in that state. Yong withdrew SAPP from BN and as the result of his action, he lost all his government positions in the state.

You see, Yong and SAPP do have their principles to adhere to and if the BN fail to address issues and concerns highlighted, there's no point for SAPP to remain in the BN fold anymore, thus by leaving the coalition is the best choice. At least the people knew that they had sacrificed for them.

So, what you say Dr Chan? Stop blaming others because of your own BN's unjust policies. You were part of the state government and if there are issues and concerns that you and SUPP had addressed and not being taken care of, you should leave the BN coalition immediately, but you did not do so out of your love and concern for your own position in the state government as deputy chief minister and state minister. You position is more important.

Therefore, stop playing the blame game and quickly announce your resignation as party president. You have been defeated. Don't talk anymore. By the way, interested on the senator's position in Dewan Negara?
