About BN losing the "Chinese" support

Actually in the 12th general elections in 2008 and the recently concluded Sarawak state election, it is all about politics, political parties contesting for seats to get into the parliament and the state legislative assembly in order to serve the people.

All contesting political parties are out to prove to the people of their worth and their effectiveness in serving the electorate entirely.

But all these elections has been marred with much publicized racial tone. Just because the BN's Chinese-based component parties like MCA, Gerakan and SUPP had lost most of their seats and popularity to the fast emerging DAP and PKR, Umno had started to reason that it is the Chinese who did not want to support the BN coalition government. Umno says that the Chinese in particular had in fact ditched BN for the opposition parties. Umno says that the Chinese community in this nation had decided to go against BN.

Because BN had lost in majority of all these urban areas which are predominantly Chinese, Umno had put the blame on the Chinese community instead of looking this vast change of voting trend as an entirely changed political scenario in this country.

Umno, a Malay extremist group called Perkasa and the Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia press had started to call on the federal government to punish the Chinese community for voting and supporting the opposition parties, particularly the DAP.

They hare not openly calling the entire nation to hate the Chinese community in retaliation of BN's defeat and lost of support. Umno wanted the Chinese community to be victimized for being "ungrateful" by voting for the opposition instead of BN.

Utusan Malaysia is calling for an all out war against the community.

These are actually not about being "ungrateful" or the ethnic Chinese community here. It is actually about the rampant corruption, power abuses, mismanagement of public funds, police brutality, abuse of human rights, oppressive laws undermining the freedom of speech and so on, which resulted to the urban voters who happened to be predominantly Chinese switching their votes to the opposition force.

If the voters are switching their votes to the opposition, it is because the government of the day i.e. the BN is not performing what the people wanted them to or they not up the our people's expectation. Simple words, if you are not performing, then you are out. That's it!

But Umno, Perkasa and Utusan Malaysia are playing up the racist card just to cover up the various wrongdoings and crisis in the BN coalition of race-based component parties itself.

Almost everyday, we could see and read the headlines in BN controlled newspapers mentioning that the Chinese community at large has been "ungrateful" and betrayed the government by voting for the opposition parties.

By putting the entire blame onto the Chinese community, Umno, Perkasa and Utusan Malaysia are clearly denying the democratic process and our basic human rights in this country. Is calling the Chinese to be punished a democratic process? Is calling us "pendatang" and we are being "ungrateful" part of the democratic process?

And if this situation continues, we are very certain that more and more Chinese would ditch BN and their Chinese representatives in the next general elections to come. If you continue to say that race is the major factor of your defeat that contributed to DAP's rise, then we got nothing else more to say in this conclusion.

It is final, you will have no more of our votes in the 13th general elections to come. BN is a torn under our skin.

EC should ask ROS to register Pakatan quickly

The Election Commission (EC) had recently advised the current opposition pact, Pakatan Rakyat comprising PAS, PKR and DAP, to register their coalition so that they could use their logo in the coming general election. EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the coalition should be registered because the opposition parties were always seen violating regulations of the election campaign, especially on the use of their logo. Datuk Wan Ahmad seems to be overly ignorant and too forgetful on this issue. The EC deputy chairman should ask the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to quickly register the Pakatan instead of calling on Pakatan to register itself. Pakatan Rakyat had earlier send in their formal application to register itself as a coalition of political parties since November 2009 and ROS has yet to register the said entity till today after delaying and creating so many hassles for more than a year. USM fiasco a shame

I read and heard with irritation and felt disgusted with the fiasco committed by the apex status university called Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) which caused untold anguish to the affected students and their parents. If this happened in Japan, the Vice-Chancellor would have done the honourable thing - take full responsibilty and leave, but here in Malaysia, as expected, the blame is shifted here and there, trying to make someone a scapegoat. By the way, would there be any racist or sabotage elements involved? Those who are responsible for this fiasco should be sacked or expelled immediately.

Singapore Malay daily teaches Mahathir about hardwork

The former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's assumption that Malays in Singapore had failed and their neighbouring Malays should take lesson from their plight has not impressed a Singaporean daily. The republic's Malay daily Berita Harian in an editorial said Malay-Muslims in the republic state were successful and it was a result of their real efforts and hard work in line with the values of meritocracy, not a result of being spoon-fed. “We do not believe in being spoon-fed or being too dependent on the government - in other words, we do not have a crutch mentality,' wrote editor Guntor Sadali.
