Attempt destruction of press freedom ongoing

It is very clear from the beginning that it has been a very clear attempt by the Umno-led BN federal government to use all its executive powers to curb the rising influences of the Pakatan Rakyat component parties, PKR, DAP and PAS.

One after another of each of these Pakatan mouthpiece were denied their supposedly permit renewal, despite their renewal applications were made months ahead prior to the expiry of their respective permits. It shows that the Umno controlled Home Ministry's attempt to curb these newspapers from reporting the truth, justice to the public, exposing wrongdoings, scandals and government mismanagement of funds.

First, it was Suara Keadilan whose publications permit was not renewed, coupled with few show cause letters, then they go after Harakah who was also slapped with two show cause letters and yesterday, they went to the DAP headquarters to also issue two show cause letters to the party's official publication The Rocket.

It is very clear that the Home Ministry is playing hide and seek with Pakatan Rakyat and trying to fool and threaten these three opposition parties with suspension of their newspapers. Again, it was understood that all there Suara Keadilan, Harakah and The Rocket had long before filed their application for permit renewal with the ministry prior to the expiry of their respective mouthpiece.

It was the actions of the Umno-dominated Home Ministry who delayed the processing and renewal of these parties' newspapers. By not renewing the permits of these newspapers, they are looking into some reasons to find faults with PKR, DAP and PAS reasoning that they are not "following" this and not "abiding" to that. A very idiotic excuse they are giving.

Where is justice? None at all. The extremist Suara Perkasa was only let off, while the racist Utusan Malaysia was praised and the irresponsible Mingguan Malaysia was only given a light warning.

These ministry officials acting on instructions from the Umno leaders are showing off their powers to curb the opposition parties' information provider didn't realize that they were actually making a fool of themselves. They think they had won this time round but they had forgotten or maybe they are trying to deny the fact that the cyberspace is still available out there to channel real information to our people.

With the Suara Keadilan, Harakah and The Rocket currently out of sight, the Parti Sosialis Malaysia's (PSM) mouthpiece, SOSIALIS is expected to fill the spot and expand its role to inform the people on the current political and economic situation. Go for it, PSM!

Apart from that, there are still a lot of independent and effective news portals in the cyberspace where our people prefer to seek their information and source. PKR still have its http://suara-keadilan.com while PAS still got its http://harakahdaily.net online.

Is Umno going to shut down the cyberspace as well? They will, sooner or later as they knew that they are becoming politically irrelevant but wanted to continue remain in power
