Putrajaya not interested to restore third vote

The Umno-led federal government is not interested to restore the local council elections as it will not necessarily improve public services, said Datuk Najib Razak.

The prime minister who is also the Umno president was responding to the move by the Selangor and Penang state governments to get the Election Commission (EC) to conduct local government elections in the two states.

From Najib's point of view, we could see that he is afraid of the people's verdict onto municipal councils and its administration. He is so afraid that if the local council election is a success in both Selangor and Penang states, the people would further urge the federal to open up the local councils in other states for elections as well.

Yes, because if local council elections are being held, where the councillors and its municipal presidents are being elected, there will be transparency and accountability. And once these two criteria are in place, then competency will come into picture.

Then, these local councils will work to their best to ensure the interest of the people's well-being are look into and seriously addressed to immediately. And if those municipal officials are not performing, then the people can vote them out and choose in the new candidates to serve them.

This not about too much politicking like what Najib mentioned. It is about giving the best service to the people and meeting the people's expectations. The municipal councils does not belongs to anyone like Umno thinks that it belongs to them. These local councils belongs to the people. We paid the quit rents, taxes, our parking fees and many more service fees and revenues to them annually to run our localities efficiently and not screwing them up.

For all these years, Umno and its BN partners had ran these local councils like secret societies and some even manages them like their own. No one know what are they actually doing in this councils. All its proceedings, managements, documents and meetings are protected by the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

If anyone questions or tries to seek any evidence of mismanagement or power abuses, they will be charged under the OSA. That's it, those crooks in the councils are safe.

That is why the Umno-led federal government is doing all it can to prevent the restoration of the local council election in order to protect its local cronies, wealth and their supporters from within.
