EC says only 20,000 Malaysians abroad registered as voters. What next?
According to the Elections Commission (EC) deputy chairman Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, there are only about 20,000 Malaysians living and working abroad had registered as voters and not half a million as claimed by certain parties.
So what? Why are you telling us all these? These information are history. Everyone knew it all from the beginning. Can the EC please stop harping on old issues and start initiating some efforts that could allow Malaysians abroad to exercise their rights as voters?
Actually, we are all not surprised by the low numbers of Malaysians abroad registering themselves as voters as did the EC deputy chairman. It shows that Wan Ahmad is completed outdated and misinformed all these years.
We are certain that Wan Ahmad do realize that the current laws in this country only allows diplomats, civil servants and military personnel working abroad to vote in general elections via postal voters and others who are not in these categories are not allow do exercise their constitutional rights. So, what is the point of these Malaysian abroad trying in vain to register as voter while they are working abroad? Isn't wasting time on something that is impossible?
Unless the EC proposes and come up with some concrete resolution and put more pressure onto the government to amend the current laws to allow Malaysian abroad to vote, none of them will ever come forward to any Malaysian embassies, high commissions or consulates out there to try their luck.
According to the MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek in his recent debate, he said Malaysians who are working abroad signifies that the host countries do really recognize these Malaysian talents, but the electoral laws in country itself does not even allow these Malaysians abroad to register as voters. The BN federal government is denying the constitutional rights of these Malaysian talents working abroad. Dr Chua, aren't you going to say anything about this?
As for Wan Ahmad, do you want us to teach you how to do your job?
