Second Lim-Chua debate: MCA does more damage

The second debate between DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and the sexist MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek had just concluded. Do remember, there is no winner in this event. It is just that the two opposing parties are trying to give their facts and information to the people and it is up to the people to decide come next general elections. Only then we shall know who is the winner, once the ballot papers are counted and tallied.

For the management team of the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI), we want to thank them for initiating such event in order for our people to see and hear from themselves the platforms of both DAP and MCA.

However, during the debate we found that the MCA president had twisted the debate into a Chinese community one by opting to mention things that should benefit the Chinese community rather than the entire Malaysian community. The MCA leader had then tried to redeem what he had mentioned earlier by applying BN into the topic as a "multiracial" stance of MCA and himself but it was far too late to cover-up his mistakes.

In the end of the debate, Guan Eng was seen leaving the stage in smiling and sporting manner while Soi Lek does it by showing his frustrating and angry look when coming down from the same stage.

Another piece of advice to ASLI, if you intend to initiate another round of debate between the political divide for the benefit of the people, do involve other leaders of both Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) as well, and not just MCA and DAP. You are making this debate like as it is only for the Malaysian Chinese. Involve leaders of  Umno, MIC, Gerakan and PPP from the BN side, as well as PKR and PAS from the PR side.

You may also involve leaders of Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) and Parti Kesejateraan Insan Tanah Air (KITA) into future debates as well. The people would also like to know the vision, objectives and manifestos that are to be offered by PSM, PRM and KITA so that our people would have more choice to consider in the next general elections, rather than just two BN and PR on top there.

EC should ask ROS to register Pakatan quickly

The Election Commission (EC) had recently advised the current opposition pact, Pakatan Rakyat comprising PAS, PKR and DAP, to register their coalition so that they could use their logo in the coming general election. EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the coalition should be registered because the opposition parties were always seen violating regulations of the election campaign, especially on the use of their logo. Datuk Wan Ahmad seems to be overly ignorant and too forgetful on this issue. The EC deputy chairman should ask the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to quickly register the Pakatan instead of calling on Pakatan to register itself. Pakatan Rakyat had earlier send in their formal application to register itself as a coalition of political parties since November 2009 and ROS has yet to register the said entity till today after delaying and creating so many hassles for more than a year. USM fiasco a shame

I read and heard with irritation and felt disgusted with the fiasco committed by the apex status university called Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) which caused untold anguish to the affected students and their parents. If this happened in Japan, the Vice-Chancellor would have done the honourable thing - take full responsibilty and leave, but here in Malaysia, as expected, the blame is shifted here and there, trying to make someone a scapegoat. By the way, would there be any racist or sabotage elements involved? Those who are responsible for this fiasco should be sacked or expelled immediately.

Singapore Malay daily teaches Mahathir about hardwork

The former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's assumption that Malays in Singapore had failed and their neighbouring Malays should take lesson from their plight has not impressed a Singaporean daily. The republic's Malay daily Berita Harian in an editorial said Malay-Muslims in the republic state were successful and it was a result of their real efforts and hard work in line with the values of meritocracy, not a result of being spoon-fed. “We do not believe in being spoon-fed or being too dependent on the government - in other words, we do not have a crutch mentality,' wrote editor Guntor Sadali.
