Outgoing IGP revealed all: Political backstabbing

Outgoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Musa Hassan said interference and blatant disrespect for the police’s chain of command by certain quarters within the ruling political elites and the federal government were among the biggest disappointments in his 41 years of service in the force.

Those culprits involved included high ranking officials from the Home Ministry, he said as he broke his silence in his last days in office. There were times when these third parties had given instructions to his personnel without his knowledge and this had led to confusion within the force.

There is a chain of command in the police force of which orders can only go out directly from the IGP and his commissioners but those third parties choose to show disrespect on him and bypassed his office instead.

Musa also said that on several occasions, he had been very direct about this and these interfering ministry officials choose to ignore him despite several reminders were given.

Apart from this, Musa also divulged he was unaware of his contract not being extended until the announcement was made at a press conference by the Home Ministry.

This is a case of political backstabbing. When the Umno minister wants the police to crack down on the opposition parties, he choose to ignore the professional chain of command of the force and gave orders to those pro-Umno officers who are willing to take orders from the party.

So, when Musa is unhappy about this situation, the minister starts backstabbing the IGP by not informing him first of his contract not being renewed for another term.

It seems very clear that Musa's tenure as an IGP has been deliberately used to advance the political interest of the ruling elites in Putrajaya. Umno had in fact made Musa a scapegoat for the people to condemn when the racist party used the force for their political ends.

It is regrettable that Musa has not being able to speak up during his tenure of office for fear of being terminated and disgraced.

The main concern here is will the incoming IGP Tan Sri Ismail Omar whose retirement is also approaching, be made another political scapegoat by Umno in its quest to stay in power?
