Writers, printers, publishers, Beware!

Recently the home ministry had came up with more comprehensive guidelines to ensure that publishers, writers and printers are "better informed" about their roles and responsibilities.

According to its deputy minister Lee Chee Leong, this would help to strengthen the enforcement under the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 (Act 301). He said these guidelines would ensure that all publishers and writers perform their roles accordingly and news are reported as "accurate" as possible.

The deputy minister also said that these guidelines are required following the inclination of some publisher who deliberately create tensions and anxiety among religions, races and cultures.

We want to ask the home ministry and the deputy minister, are they serious about implementing these new guidelines? Does this implementation covers the entire nation and all our people, regardless of who he is or what is his position and status?

We want to ask the home ministry and the deputy minister, are Umno, Perkasa and Utusan Malaysia going to be exempted from these new guidelines? If not, are you able to enforce these new rules and take any of the leaders of Umno and Perkasa as well as Utusan Malaysia to be charged in the court of law should any of them utter racist remarks, promoting hatred, violence, disunity or making false and inaccurate reports in the newspaper?

If you want to show to the people that Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 (Act 301) can curb such negative elements, then walk your talk. Do not just use this Act to only persecute the opposition Pakatan Rakyat.

Yesterday, Utusan Malaysia had made yet another lie by implicating a Pakatan Rakyat component party to the murder of Datuk Sosilawati and her three associates. Is the ministry going to act against this newspaper? For your info, Utusan not only report lies, but they also promote racism and hatred in their reports.

Furthermore, is the home ministry going to use this Act to go after those who come up to speak the truth and stand up to seek justice? You had done that many times, isn't it so? And how are we going to trust you?

For precaution, we advise those who want to tell the truth and seek justice to do so via online news portals and weblogs as these internet tools are not subject to the above Act.
