40th Anniversary of Tow Boo Kong Temple, Butterworth

The month of September 2010 is very significant for the history of Tow Boo Kong Temple Butterworth. For in this month, the temple will be celebrating two major events of the year: its 40th Anniversary as well as The Grand Ritual Praying for World Peace and Prosperity in Malaysia. These celebrations will last for 5 days.

Invitation has been sent to invite high ranking Taoist masters from Fujian China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore to preside the ceremonial prayers for the temple. Other representatives from the Taoist Associations from these countries, as well as Thailand and Malaysia have also been invited to grace this special occasion together. At the same time, these associations will be sending more than 100 Taoist Masters to perform the Blessing and Prayers Ritual.

Vast effort and planning has been put in for the preparation of these two massive events. Prior visits to China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore have also been made to understand and learn the intricacies of the ceremonial and praying procedures.

The Grand Ritual Praying for World Peace and Prosperity in Malaysia (22nd September 2010 to 24th September 2010)

According to religion and customs, whenever there’s a completion of a temple, a ceremony known as Ching Jiao is to be held. The significance of this ceremony is to inform the Heaven, Earth and the 3 Realms on the achievement of this building project. This ceremony is also invoked to thank the Heaven for fulfilling the wish of this construction and that the project has been carried out smoothly and peacefully with the blessings of the deities.

Tow Boo Kong Temple will be celebrating its Ching Jiao Ceremony from the 22nd September to the 24th September 2010. The special highlight for this occasion is the religious ceremonial prayers by distinguished Taoist masters from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. These priests will preside and perform the blessing prayers for the official opening. Incantations of the Taoist scriptures and divine mantras will be carried out for a continuation of three days.

Besides this, a Salvation Ceremony will also be conducted for the deceased members of the temple who had once served diligently for the temple - By Danny H.K. Law, Penang State Executive Councilor for Tourism.
