Stolen jet engines, was the air force sergeant made a scapegoat?

We are wondering how can a non-commissioned officer (NCO) with only a rank of sergeant in the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) could be so "powerful" until he could authorise the shipment of the stolen jet engines out of this country to a south American state.

Yesterday, Mr N.Nagarajah, aged 71 who is the father of the currently detained air force sergeant N.Tharmendran had formally lodged a police report at Brickfields police stations mentioning that his son Sgt Tharmendran has been tortured by the air force intelligence personnel led by an officer named Major Ismail into confessing the theft of the jet engines.

So, the question here, is Sgt Tharmendran being made a scapegoat in order the cover up the real culprits sitting in the air force high command? Prior to this, there are several reports that indicated that an air force brigadier-general, with a few colonels and majors are being called in by the top brass for internal investigation.

And these group of senior air force officers were eventually let off and all of them were asked to retired and discharged gracefully. Why are these senior officers being let off just like that? These men are in positions of power which enable them to conduct any theft not only the jet engines but also the entire aircraft and its weaponary systems.

These senior officers were been let off just because they are brigadier-general, colonels and majors? And then they shifted all the blame onto Sgt Tharmendran who is only an enlisted man with no powers of moving such a huge military asset at all.

Who is Sgt Tharmendran? He is only an ordinary air force enlisted man who had achieved the rank of an air force sergeant throughout his years of service with the country's air wing.

With his low ranking position and minor role in the force, we doubt that he has that capability to steal and smuggle out all those jet engines to another country for sale. Something must have went wrong in the RMAF. Someone who is big and powerful enough is involved in this much complicated case.

We urge the police Special Branch and the MACC to step in and recall the discharged brigadier-general, colonels and majors for further investigation. The theft and sale of these jet engines may not be so properly and smoothly coordinated if not for those senior officers.

This is common sense. Everyone knows about this. Even the neighbourhood situated at the said nearby air force base knew about this.

The only thing is the RMAF high command and the air force intelligence are covering up something and the defence ministry is turning a blind eye onto this issue and trying their very best to deny the involvement of the air force senior officials to avoid the embarrassment that they may have to take if they do so.

A very sad episode to again see how our nation's once respected institution is now falling to its knees just like that.
