TI-M to hold EGM over GCR issue
Transparency International Malaysia (TI-Malaysia) will convene an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) soon to discuss problems arising from the release of its Global Corruption Report (GCR) 2009.
TI-Malaysia acting president Datuk Mohamed Iqbal said that at a meeting held on Monday, its executive council agreed to the EGM.
"The executive council has agreed to convene an EGM, as soon as possible, to address issues and if necessary, to step down, thus providing the opportunity for the members to elect a new exco," he said in a statement here today.
This latest development in TI-M followed the released of the GCR on Sept 23, in which its then president Datuk Paul Low had quoted the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) crisis as the biggest scandal this year.
He had said the controversy would be a positive challenge to revamp and ensure more transparency in the country.
Following the controversy arising from the release of the GCR, Low resigned and Mohamed was appointed acting president.
Certain parties in the report, including PKFZ's turnkey developer Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing also publicly stated that he was considering legal action against TI-M, while a TI-M exco member, Tan Sri Robert Phang, also questioned the accuracy of the report - Agencies.
