Defeat a wake-up call for Pakatan Rakyat

Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) loss in the Bagan Pinang by-election was a rude wake-up call for the coalition, indicating that it could not be overconfident of its popularity among Malaysians.

The fact that the PR leaders had overlooked their internal conflicts which were openly debated where it has been mistakenly seen by voters and the public as PR is having an internal problem and busy politicking, thus ignoring the people.

Besides, the public and voters' misconception on the PR's internal bickering, the BN-Umno also tend to take advantage on the situation by manipulating it to be seen as PR's internal crisis. The people of today after about 52 years being ruled by BN still cannot understand the meaning of a real democracy in practical.

Therefore, the PR leadership should double its effort in promoting its democratic awareness, freedom of speech, the concept of self criticism, equality, etc to the people. The PR component parties must also continue to strive for a single and common ideology of its own rather than PKR, DAP or PAS having their own sets of agenda.

PAS should stop its extremist views, while PKR should filter its members who may in future damage the party's reputation and then DAP should work harder to gain its ground in the Malay majority areas.

With BN's continuous conservative manner, PR still have the advantage over the current political situation and they should work harder to preserve their strength together as one coalition.
