Loyalty to the Nation First

To reiterate the point on loyalty, it is interesting to know that actually there is no such term of loyalty to the ruler at all. Rather, the common saying is that of loyalty to the nation. Thus, one’s loyalty is always pledged to the nation and not to a particular ruler, king, emperor or political figures like the prime minister, president, ministers or mentris besar. Now, when a general’s loyalty is to the nation, he will have the interests of all parties at heart i.e. his army, the people and the sovereign and not be indebted or biased to any particular group or individual. However, when a general is not clear on what loyalty implies, it could lead to dire consequences. A good example is General Yue Fei of the Chinese Song Dynasty (960 AD to 1280 AD). When Yue Fei was a young man, his mother tattooed the four Chinese characters “Loyalty to the Nation” on his back. Yue Fei later became a very famous and outstanding Song General and he was responsible of repelling the invaders at the C...

Dissolve the Perak state assembly

The Perak state legislative assembly should be dissolved as soon as possible to resolve the current constitutional crisis in that state. First the current administration is a rebel state government established in a "state assembly sitting" held in the Perak Umno headquarters without the attendance of the legitimate Speaker V.Sivakumar. Second, the legitimate speaker was forcefully removed from office as the "mini state assembly sitting" held at the site of the state assembly hall was totally an illegal one because the state assembly session has not even commence its sitting which was supposed to be start of with the arrival of the Raja Muda of Perak followed by his speech. The chaos as the result of the coup d'etat created by Perak Umno must be stopped at all cost. We advise the state rebel leader Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, if you claimed that you have the support from the Perakians, then dissolve the state legislative assembly and immediately call for a fresh electio...

1Malaysia, 1MCA, 1Toilet, 1Dead

The 1Malaysia today had came out with some mixed happenings and events. It claimed to be an effort by Umno-led BN federal government to unite all Malaysians into one entity, but how? The results has yet to be seen till today. We are still racially divided in all terms, aspects and policies. Then, comes MCA factional infightings with both Ong Tee Keat and Dr Chua Soi Lek tussling each other in their power struggle until the recent EGM, then BN chairman Najib Razak stepped in to bring Ong and Dr Chua together as 1MCA. Later, the new MCA deputy president Liow Tiong Lai, youth chief Dr Wee Ka Siong and wanita chief Chew Mei Fun complained that they are unaware of the peace pact between Ong and Dr Chua and did not want to endorse it before reviewing it at the next central committee meeting. So, is there a 1MCA actually? And the 1 brand continues with the recent implementation by the Trengganu Umno-led state government who introduced 1Toilet policy as one of the move to liberalise the educat...

Where are the Royal and Independent Commissions?

The Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal has been rolling from one place to another. Each person involved passing the buck from one corner to the other corner. It seems that no one is telling exactly what had really happened and transpired in the PKFZ scandal. Too many investigative panels and committees being established to oversee and probe the scandal based on the auditor's report and so on. But todate, nothing concrete nor effective has been achieved so far. The transport minister, Ong Tee Keat is too busy with the infighting in his party in his capacity as MCA president. The PKFZ scandal is heading nowhere. MACC said they are investigating but what have they done so far? Calling this person up and the other for questioning and offering drinks to them to begin their chats. The losses accumulated are even worst than the BMF scandal. Apart from that, the case of the late Teoh Beng Hock who was found murdered in the Selangor MACC headquarters in Shah Alam remained a mistery to all ...

Anwar: Budget 2010 weak

As expected, not everyone is happy with Budget 2010. It must also be made clear that any new budget is not without its flaws. Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim said several problems including global financial issues were addressed in the Budget but it had some fundamental weaknesses. He said efforts towards cutting the national budget deficit were not clear and the total net foreign direct investment dipped to RM3.6bil from RM19.7bil. Besides several goodies being offered to the rakyat, there were new burdens, such as the RM50 service tax for each credit card or charge card which would be borne by two million people. Continuation of old effort He also voiced concern over the selling of national assets such as prime land in the Federal Territory because the process was not open, and demanded that this be given attention. PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar said while the promotion of green technology should be applauded, the government should emphasise on providing more funds for research and ...

Iskandar's CEO resigned

The country’s showpiece economic corridor, Iskandar Malaysia, has been rocked with the sudden resignation of chief executive officer Harun Johari just months after his appointment. He also becomes the second CEO to exit the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) since it was set up in November 2006, following the footsteps of Datuk Ikmal Hijaz. Harun’s departure will raise more red flags over a project which has been long on announcements and master plans but painfully short on visible changes on the ground. It also calls into question Khazanah Nasional’s acumen in picking senior officials to drive this ambitious project. Read more ...

The 2010 budget, nothing that really interest

From what I had viewed, the budget does not carry any tough effort in stamping out corruptions and power abuses, check and balance in the current power structure monopolised by the BN, Umno and the rest of their coalition parties which will anyway lead to continuous rampant mismanagement. So, in the end the day, will everyone of us be as individual, businessmen, corporate or in a large group of interest be able to enjoy the benefites of the budget at 100 percent? As long as the activities of corruptions, power abuses and mismanagements continue its misadventures, we would not be able to enjoy 100 percent of the benefits from the budget. The more the BN federal government spend, the more it goes to their cronies. The auditor-general's report served as a clear evidence to that. The wrongdoers has been mushrooming continuously, even if the auditor-general had repeatedly reported various abuses in government departments, agencies and government-linked companies (GLC) as well. Apart fro...

Got their Mykads only at their old age?

The recent publicities of the home ministry (KDN) awarding Mykads to several stateless aged people made most of us irritated, upset and disappointed. Why did we say that? It is because these poor aged people had used their entire lives waiting for their citizenship application to be approved. Being stateless, they cannot enjoy the rights of being in Malaysia like going to school, getting proper education, applying for scholarships, bank loans, buying or owning properties, getting married and have families and so on. Why did they have to wait till their age reaches 87, 90 or 99 years, after they undergone all those sufferings and misseries? They became stateless because of some constraints or setbacks during their time, maybe due to the war or family issues and so on, to name a few. These poor old folks were denied their entire human rights for decades. And now the KDN dare come out in publicity telling the nation that these poor old folks have been awarded their citizenships. The recen...

AG Report: Why can’t those power abuses stop?

Every year, when the auditor-general (AG) releases his reports and findings of the civil administration to the public, there are sure to be power abuses, corrupt activities, mismanagements of public funds, allocations, overspendings, cronyism, favouritism, etc, etc. Despite continuous effort and actions based on the AG reports were taken against all those culprits (or are there really any actions taken against those who are responsible?), these crimes and negative elements has been continuing and it looks like there are inheritance to such activities, where if one is caught, the other will take over and would continue as usual. The question here is why isn’t the federal government taking any stern action or making any hard move to curb all these corrupt activities and crooked civil servants within its administrations which consist of various departments and agencies. Is it just because grassroots leaders of a dominant political party such as division and branch chairmen as well as comm...

Wear crash helmets and bring along your shields, MCA central delegates told

After having stormed out from the central committee meeting recently, MCA president Ong Tee Keat said he will want to call for another EGM to resolve the upcoming battle which may pave way for yet another party election to elect an entirely new central committee again. The newly appointed party deputy president Liow Tiong Lai and the other office-bearers are said to had clashed with Ong on his position as party president. So the MCA central delegates will have to travel to Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur once again to do their job which they did half way in the previous EGM. If you all complain now, its too late. You all should have work together to resolve the matter once and for all in the first EGM. And now you all have to travel to Kuala Lumpur again. Anyway, its alright, you all will have free accommodation at the hotel, just enjoy that. But remember, bring along your crash helmets and shields for self-defence just in case those chairs or tables in the hall start flying.

Is success necessarily good?

"Success imprisons our mind!" said consultant cum author Michael Lum in his book which I had came acrossed recently. Here are an article and example from Michael that everyone of us need to into account. Success may not be neccesarily good. It locks our minds in fixed paradigms. We accept parameters that have made us successful. Therefore, we continue to rely on the same formulae with practiced skills to get predictable responses. We live a life according to the script. We operate operate in a safe and familiar environment called the confort zone. This saves us from the humiliation of failure. Success discourages us from approaching problems from different angles and exploring new territories. It seduces us to be complacent, accept the known and resist the unknown. On our laurels, we rest comfortably. With success, we hug the shores of safety but fail to see the horizon of opportunities. Ironically, success does not teach us how to manage failure successfully. Example: An arr...

Unity for Malaysian Malaysia

Let all religionist and ethnics unite to condemn religious and racist aggression. Let them unite to stop all brutality and manslaughter in the name of promoting peace. Let us unite to give freedom to every individual to follow his or her beliefs according to his or her own conviction and choice. Let us all unite to give up religious and ethnic greatness, monopoly, domination and supremacy over others. Let us all unite to respect the other person's religious beliefs, practices and ethnicity as long as these beliefs and their position are harmless and do not lead to violence. Let us all unite to wipe out the challenging attitude of unhealthy religious and ethnic competition as well as extremism. Let all religionist and ethnics unite to introduce the moderate way of life amongst our followers and advise them not to go to the extremes. The unity among the religions and ethnics of mankind, if and when achieved will be one of the greatest blessing to this country. Certainly we cannot bri...

Who is multiracial and who is not ?

As you all knew, Pakatan Rakyat (PR) consist of coalition of opposition parties such as PKR, DAP and PAS, while Barisan Nasional (BN) consist of coalition of Umno, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PPP, etc. In PR, except for PAS, PKR and DAP had indeed demonstrated well in their leadership line-up and their elected representatives which are clearly multiracial. As for PAS, its a party based on Islamic values and teachings, therefore its membership majority is Malay. However in their party constitution did not state that only Malay can be member of the said party. In Kelantan for example, PAS has a Chinese Muslim representative sitting in the state executive council. On BN's case, the dominant parties like Umno, MCA, MIC are race-based political parties who only champion the cause of each of their ethnicity. While Gerakan and PPP are said to be multiracial, their ideology is irrelevant as the race-based parties in the BN is still dominant. Gerakan stated that it has been multiracial all these yea...

Pakatan Rakyat needs to be strengthened

The Pakatan Rakyat need to consolidate its strength as soon as possible. Despite calls from all corners that the Pakatan coalition which consist of PKR, DAP and PAS should register its combined entity, the opposition coalition leaders has been delaying the efforts citting earlier confusion in the Societies Act. Now that the Registrar of Societies (ROS) had given his confirmation on the proceedings of registering the opposition coalition, the Pakatan leaders must take this opportunity as soon as they can since the ROS had given their word to pave way for the registration of the Pakatan into an official entity of the opposition coalition. In order to consolidate their strength, Pakatan leaders ought to look, review and come up with the following effective measures: PKR, DAP and PAS should jointly come up with a common ideology for Pakatan. An effective Pakatan secretariat should also be set up as soon as possible to consist members and officials from the three parties to administer it. T...

TI-M to hold EGM over GCR issue

Transparency International Malaysia (TI-Malaysia) will convene an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) soon to discuss problems arising from the release of its Global Corruption Report (GCR) 2009. TI-Malaysia acting president Datuk Mohamed Iqbal said that at a meeting held on Monday, its executive council agreed to the EGM. "The executive council has agreed to convene an EGM, as soon as possible, to address issues and if necessary, to step down, thus providing the opportunity for the members to elect a new exco," he said in a statement here today. This latest development in TI-M followed the released of the GCR on Sept 23, in which its then president Datuk Paul Low had quoted the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) crisis as the biggest scandal this year. He had said the controversy would be a positive challenge to revamp and ensure more transparency in the country. Following the controversy arising from the release of the GCR, Low resigned and Mohamed was appointed actin...

Defeat a wake-up call for Pakatan Rakyat

Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) loss in the Bagan Pinang by-election was a rude wake-up call for the coalition, indicating that it could not be overconfident of its popularity among Malaysians. The fact that the PR leaders had overlooked their internal conflicts which were openly debated where it has been mistakenly seen by voters and the public as PR is having an internal problem and busy politicking, thus ignoring the people. Besides, the public and voters' misconception on the PR's internal bickering, the BN-Umno also tend to take advantage on the situation by manipulating it to be seen as PR's internal crisis. The people of today after about 52 years being ruled by BN still cannot understand the meaning of a real democracy in practical. Therefore, the PR leadership should double its effort in promoting its democratic awareness, freedom of speech, the concept of self criticism, equality, etc to the people. The PR component parties must also continue to strive for a single and comm...

MCA EGM: Ong made a big mistake

MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat had made a very big mistake. After being successfully elected as party president, Ong began demonstrating his iron fist and powerful personality by engineering the sacking and later suspension of party deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek. Yes indeed, Ong had committed a big mistake which finally lead to his downfall at yesterday's party EGM when the central delegates posted their no-confidence vote against him. Instead of focusing on strengthening the party and concentrating resolving the much debated PKFZ issue, Ong had moved his entire engergy to get rid of his deputy president by initiating a disciplinary action against him based on an outdated sex video scam and a withdrawn complaint. If Ong is smart enough, he should have be patient and wait for the next party general assembly to topple his deputy via party election instead moving against him via disciplinary action. Anyway, Dr Chua was also elected by the delegates to be the party...

Equality: Tolerance, Respect, Love, Concern and Care

In Malaysia, we have meet people who of different religion, race and cultural backgrounds almost everyday and today it has became part of our lives as Malaysians. In Singapore and Australia particularly, the nations’ two governments have been diligently engaged in multicultural undertakings which bring different religious and ethnic groups together to resolve misunderstandings and conflicts. We hope that everyone will do his or her best to contribute to inter ethnic, cultural and social stability as well as world peace. In order to achieve this, we must treat others with equality and learn to leave and adapt in harmony with people around us, regardless of their religion, ethnic groups, nationality, cultural backgrounds or social positions. So, how do we apply this harmonious living in our lives? The key words are tolerance, respect, love, concern and care. We must therefore, broaden our minds and tolerate one another in our daily lives. Without tolerance, conflicts and oppositions cann...

What is multiculturalism?

As we know, every one of us is exploring to achieve harmony and what is the most effective method of achieving it. We see a few wise and capable leaders throughout time and the world who were able to reconcile differences and unite their groups so that these groups were able to be successful. A small group like a family was able to become prosperous while a group as large as a country was able to become wealthy and powerful. Therefore, those who have the ability to bring harmony among their people play a very important role in the achievement of their groups’ unity. Why were these leaders able to reconcile the differences and unite their various groups and countries? This is because they treated others with sincerity and compassion. One who is truly sincere can move others. If one cannot do so, it is because one is not sincere enough. One who has utmost sincerity can move all beings. One can even move a person who has numerous afflictions and bad habits so that this person would at lea...
