French Scorpene inquiry to commence in France
The official public inquiry over the purchase of the French Scorpene submarines by the Malaysian government in the year 2001 is expected to commence tomorrow in France. The official probe was called by the French government.
The probe in France will be carried out by a specially appointed Paris Tribunal Grande Instance. Some prominent Malaysian human rights activist are also expected to be called up as witness for the inquiry. Among them are Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) director Dr Kua Kia Soong and Suaram secretariat member Cynthia Gabriel.
Well, we hope the Tribunal would come up with some findings in France of which will link to Abdul Razak Baginda (a one time advisor and agent of prime minister and Umno president Najib Razak during his tenure as minister of defense), the murder of a Mongolian interpreter Altantuya Shaariibuu and the deal which led to the purchase of these Scorpene submarines. The father of the late Altantuya, Setev Shaarribuu is also expected to appear in the tribunal as a witness.
We urge all the witness, be it from the Malaysian side or the French side, expose whatever you had known of these deal to the public as this involve public interests, corruption has taken place, a high price in terms of commission has been paid out to one mysterious third party. Besides, these second hand submarines were sold at such a high price with the money taken from our taxpayers.
In this case, our general public ought to know the facts. If it involves some wrongdoings being carried out by Najib or his henchmen, then it should be reported and exposed to the public for scrutiny.
All efforts by the Malaysian government to cover-up such information should therefore be condemned.
We wish the best to the Paris Tribunal Grande Instance in getting justice done for us since this Malaysian government under Najib is not going to tell us anything at all.
