Anwar's acquittal, justice yet to be proven

Upon acquittal of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the recently concluded second sodomy trial, Umno and Barisan leaders are quick to praise the judiciary system for its fair and proper trial.

And then the solicitor-general Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden called on the prosecution team to file an appeal to the higher court to quash Anwar's acquittal in order to get another re-trial. Why waste time and public money for the attempted appeal? Did the prosecution obtain any fresh or sufficient evidence to have the case appealed and obtain a re-trial.

During the trial, the entire episode itself had proven that the whole prosecution team is a mere failure. One of the many laughing stock came up from the trial was one of the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) has close relationship with the accuser.

Apart from that, evidence after evidence, witnesses who testified from the prosecution side clearly demonstrated that the whole case was actually a well-engineered evidence. They only testify but did not prove if the case had ever exist in the first place.

And when the deputy prime minister and Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin stated that the judiciary system was fair to everyone, what about the current MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek?

When the oral sex scandal was exposed, Dr Chua was quick to admit that the person in the sex video was him and it was indeed him who was performing the oral sex act. Since he admitted the offense and there were also some MCA grassroots leaders who lodged police reports against him, why didn't the authorities take up the case and file charges against him for his oral sex with an unnamed lady?

We all knew that oral sex is outlawed in this country and yet the attorney-general and the whole judiciary are only sitting there watching and do nothing to book him to the court of law.

As such, why Dr Chua, a truly guilty person in accordance to the law was able to escape completely the charges and a trial in the court, whereas Anwar 's case which was so doubtful in its prosecution and yet they wanted to file an appeal?

When former Selangor Umno menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo was found guilty of corruption and misused of power, he was only sentence to a 12 months jail whereas when a young man was caught stealing food for his child from a supermarket, he was found guilty and given a heavier sentence of 36 months jail. Is this fair?

Then, the entire judiciary system itself is not yet as fair as we thought till today. The system itself is still partially politically motivated and it need to be revamped entirely in order to provide a balance avenue for everyone.

So, do not say that this judiciary is perfectly good just because it had acquitted Anwar. What about the rest?
