Penang BN chairmanship: Tussle in Gerakan intensifies

Among his sacrifices were the relinquishing the chairmanship of the Penang BN. Earlier, Gerakan secretary-general Teng Chang Yeow who is also the Penang Gerakan vice-chairman has been earmarked by Dr Koh to take over the state BN chairmanship from him.
However, it has been reported that Dr Koh had later changed his mind at the last minute following an immense pressure from Umno and put the favour to his political secretary Ong Thean Lye instead. Ong is currently the Penang Gerakan secretary.
It has been an open secret that Teng wasn't Umno's favourite due to his tough talking in several issues related to Gerakan while Ong was seen as Umno's top choice due to his soft approach.
In this case, Dr Koh has indeed embarrassed Teng in such an awkward looking situation just because of Umno's pressure. It clearly shows the ineffectiveness of Dr Koh in overcoming such pressure especially from Umno who is the current dominant party in the BN coalition.
And with Teng being clearly embarrassed in such way, we believed he and his supporters would soon emerge out from Dr Koh's support base as a different faction in order to justify his candidacy for the state BN chairmanship in which would make the tussle for the state coalition post even more difficult to deal with.
By getting hold of the state BN chairman's post, would make the person the shadow chief minister and should BN were to be able to wrest Penang back into its fold, he is certain to be the chief minister of the state.
While Teng is seen as more protective and defensive should any parties were to taken on Gerakan, Ong has been viewed as passive and soft in his approach, just like his boss, Dr Koh.
Feedback from the public also indicated that should Teng were to take helm on the state BN leadership, Gerakan's chances of wresting back some state seats would be better, while Ong has been widely viewed as another "Dr Koh" who would eventually sink Gerakan deeper in the next general elections.
Well, let us see what is the announcement that Dr Koh is expected to make tomorrow on who would replace him as state BN chairman.
Some other sacrifices that Dr Koh is expected to make is, he may stay out of the next general elections but in going for such move, he also conditioned Penang Gerakan chairman Dr Teng Hock Nan and party vice-president Chia Kwang Chye to stay out in the next poll too in order to bring down the high handed tussles between these two factions.
Chia has however yet to confirm that he will bow out and had earlier indicated that he still wanted to contest.
As usual, each of these contending leaders would certainly say, they will leave it to BN chairman and Umno president Najib Razak to decide, because Dr Koh cannot even make such decision at all. Dr Koh is proven powerless!
