BN says no to IPCMC, to maintain its grip
In light with the death of a security guard while under police custody and the mounted public pressure to have the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) established as soon as possible to address many power abuse within the police force, the BN government is still ignoring the call to look into the many problems and mismanagement in the force.
The home minister and Umno vice president Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein said no comment when the press tried to seek their view on the possibility to form the IPCMC. And now, even the deputy prime minister and Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyddin Yassin is avoiding the same question as well, while their big boss prime minister and Umno president Datuk Najib Razak has long avoided the situation by going into hiding with his sudden trip to Gaza City, Palestine.
It seems that nobody in the BN government is interested to address this decades old problem within the police force. Even after the previous Royal Commission of Inquiry To Check on the Police Force had made several recommendations to the BN government to further enhance and improve the credibility of the force, the BN leaders has decided to ignore the fact that the police force is in dire need for a total revamp.
Corruptions, mismanagement, power abuse and connections with the underworld as well as many deaths in the police custody has been the subject of the people's call to get the force reformed. The people's respect to the police force has also declined rapidly to a level that no one would "even care to adhere to the law" when they see even the police are not following the law and order.
Why is the BN is still insisting on a big No to the formation of the IPCMC? There is a very big political reason for that. BN still needs the service of the force's large number of Special Branch (SB) personnel nationwide to keep tabs on the current rising influence of the Opposition parties. This why BN need to keep the force pleased in order to continue utilizing the SB's intelligence network for their own political advantages and to ensure that BN would maintain its power come next general elections (GE13).
GE13 is somewhere around in the first quarter and the BN government could not avoid them any further as their mandate would be expiring by end of this quarter. This is why BN still needs the service of the SB in order to check and control Oppositions from running over their borders of power.
BN says their ruling coalition is all for the people. But when the people as decided enough is enough over the police force's misadventures, and BN stubbornly still says no to IPCMC. Is this what BN and Najib call, "Rakyat Didahulukan" all these years? Ignoring the people's plight and grievances is what is BN's subject now as they are now afraid of losing power. Because of their continuous fear of losing their power, BN leaders are now resorting to some sort of dictatorship in order to ensure they remain in Putrajaya.
In this case, under BN, are there any brighter chance of putting the entire police force back into its good shape? Certainly there is none at all because none of the BN leaders have that political will to do so. The personal and political interests of these BN leaders are still on top of the people's welfare and well being.
As such, as long as BN is still around in Putrajaya, the crime rate will keep on increasing, corruption and power abuse within the police force will continue to flourish, deaths in the police custody will continue to increase, BN will continue to use the force, turn it into a "Gestapo" type for their political advantages and finally, the people would continue to suffer under the BN's draconian rule.
Thus, the people now have no other choice other than to seek for an alternative political force to reshape the entire nation's governance, administration and most importantly the security and public order.
