Let's Not Debate Religion in Public
In the beginning, we all regard religion as an avenue where people would seek refuge with and to practice it spiritually; its teachings by the prophets, the "nabis", the various masters, Gods, "Tuhan", "Allah", the Buddha, Jesus Christ, and many more.
People would use the religion, to follow its teachings and make it practical in our daily life and to be aware of what or who we are in our everyday cores and responsibilities. People would take up religion as a guide towards their livelihood. It is something like a "way of life", sometimes we could also describe it as an education for our livelihood. Religion is something that everyone of us should considered as personal in our heart and mind
But today, here in Malaysia, religion has been blatantly misused, politicized and brought up in public for debate and now someone or two has dictated that this or that word was not supposed to be used by any other people and so on. Then, some politicians at large from within the ruling elites are now using that religion to promote hate and discrimination in the name of that religion itself. That religion has been used by these irresponsible people and rulers to incite hate, suspicion and discrimination among humankind.
Did the holy books say that a religion can be made a law, regulated and a special court could be established to hear cases of those who profess this religion? Did the holy books say that this religion consist of several kinds of punishment in order to penalize believers who fail to adhere by the said religion? Did the holy books mention that people cannot do this and cannot do that? Did the holy books say that you will be condemned to hell if you leave that particular religion for another? Did the holy books say that waging war against others would be some sort of holy war?
No! Not at all. The holy books is all about educating people on right livelihood, right practices and on how to use our wisdom to judge what is right and what should be done based on our analytical instincts (reasonable thinking and facts).
So, whatever said or dictate by all those so-called clerics, religious experts or whatsoever rulers are merely man made and most of such verdicts do not based anything from the holy books. And if there is, please show the evidence now! Otherwise, they are just simply bullshitting here and there in the name of religion.
This country of ours called Malaysia was supposed to be the harmonious and the multiracial as well as multi-cultural societies are the most beautiful part we had ever seen. But ever since that particular religion has been brought into the corridors of power and being manipulated politically, socially and economically, things are getting from bad to worst. Suspicion among our communities had began to ripe everywhere. People are starting to leave in fear, people are talking about race again, people are becoming aware of each other's skin colour again, people are beginning to claim supremacy over the others and many more.
The situation has in fact became very unhealthy and disunity has also started spread all because of that one religion. For the sake of our people, our unity and the country can we not involve religion in the debates or whatsoever? Put religions behind close doors and let's run this country, our businesses, our institutions and our administrations professionally based on facts, figures and performance based criteria.
Religions should be everyone's personal education and guidance, instead of being used to compare who is more powerful than who or who is greater than who.
