Why is BN talking about "affordable homes"?
When the Penang state government announced that affordable home would be built in the state. However, the Penang BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow has brushed aside the state government's announcement by saying that those affordable home are no more affordable as they are now overpriced.
First of all, why is the Penang BN talking about "affordable homes" right now? Before 2008, who was then ruling the Penang state since 1969? Who actually has turned Penang into an industrialized state? If the state has been industrialized, then is the state government able to control the land prices from shooting up once certain areas has been developed and industrialized?
If the Penang BN chairman is trying to talk about "welfare" for the people, then we can certainly confirm that they are not fit to talk about it at all in the first place. During BN's rule in the state, did Gerakan, MCA or Umno come up with a mechanism to control and curb the rising land cost and property price in the state following the massive industrialization and development in the state?
The fact that is, nobody even cares about it, as almost everyone of them, be it in the then state government or businesses wanted to take advantage and to ripe profit over it.
If the Penang BN dares to say that affordable homes are between RM25,000 to RM35,000 and they are questioning over why the affordable rates now has rocketed to RM72500 or more, then these BN leaders are really sleeping on their job. Didn't they know that all those lands were being bought and sold by the BN cronies previously? Those lands and property prices had eventually shoot up sky high because the trade of lands and properties has been very intensive all these years, even the years when BN was still running the state like their own pocket.
If BN leaders are really sincere about building more affordable homes for those less fortunate people, then a special law or bill should have been enacted at the federal level in order to seek some percentage of land allocations from each state in order to accommodate such affordable housing schemes. If there's no such law or regulation, then can anyone control the fluctuation of the land and property prices? Don't say Pakatan, even BN themselves would not be able to control the rising land and property prices if there is not a single regulatory to control the situation.
So, again, why is BN talking about "affordable homes" when they are not initiating anything at all during their period of governance? What about the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, the Majlis Tanah Negara, the Cabinet Committee and the other regulatory bodies at the federal level? Why aren't these agencies initiating any moves at all. Is this what they call being "welfare minded" to the people?
If all those BN leaders are truly "welfare minded", they should have carry out all those control mechanism long time ago instead of harping on this issue when Pakatan is at helm of the state.
The prices of the land and properties has already rocketed sky high and there's nothing much can be done now to undone the damages, unless there's suddenly a crash in the property market. Would most of us want that to happen in the first place?
BN, please don't talk cheap.
