ROS wants to limit number of political parties
According to Datuk Abdul Rahman, having about 33 political parties in this country with a 28 million population and some 7 million registered voters is enough. He also said that those who intend to pursue their political interest could also do so via NGOs.
Well, it is absurd and very unprofessional for Datuk Abdul Rahman to say that as his statements clearly contradicts the Federal Constitution that guarantees the rights of all Malaysians to form political parties and associations.
The ROS director-general has no right to dictate such regulations. By implementing such rules which not in the Societies Act at all, he is going against the spirit of the Federal Constitution which guarantees our people's freedom of association.
No wonder the ROS is still withholding the application of registration made by the Human Rights Party (HRP) until today. Previously, the ROS had also withheld the application made by the Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) to register itself.
The PSM however, had successfully in its bid to register after they obtained a court injunction to order the ROS to register the party after a decade long tug-of-war with the authorities.
ROS had earlier also registered the Parti Cinta Malaysia (PSM) in a matter of time and approved the revamp of a defunct political party into Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (KITA).
