Dr Asri: Reject dirty politics!

By Shannon Teoh An influential Muslim cleric called today for all parties to come together and reject dirty and obscene politics on the back of a video that surfaced on Monday allegedly showing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim having sex with a Chinese prostitute. Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin said in a statement that Malaysians with dignity as civilised humans must protest the ā€œdirty and ugly culture among politicians and the media of the country.ā€ ā€œWe must fight obscene politics that tries to disgrace others,ā€ said the former Perlis mufti. Opposition Leader Anwar has denied being the man in the video and accused Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammudin Hussein of being involved in the emergence of the video. This claim gained credence when former Umno Youth chief Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik admitted that businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay, Perkasa treasurer Datuk Shuib Lazim and himself were collectively the mysterious ā€œDatuk Tā€ behind Mondayā€™s screening of...

Datuk T conspiracy to wipe out Anwar (Hitler version)

Image
Umno's plan to sabotage Pakatan Rakyat's chances of gaining more grounds in the upcoming Sarawak state election. They planned the sex video scandal to campaign against Pakatan and Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. If the sex video plan fail, what next? To kill him?

A well-planned game to cripple Pakatan Rakyat

Image
Just immediately after the Sarawak state legislative assembly was dissolved to pave way for the state election, former child rapist and ex-Melaka Umno chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik admitted that his business partner Datuk Shazryl Eskay, Perkasaā€™s treasurer Datuk Shuib Lazim and himself were collectively the mysterious ā€œDatuk Tā€ who were behind the Mondayā€™s screening of a sex video purportedly featuring PKR Advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim with an unidentified woman. Congratulations to Umno on their well-planned game to cripple Pakatan Rakyat's and their election machinery. But everyone knows that this will not deter the strength and spirit of the Pakatan leaders in Sarawak in facing the upcoming Sarawak state election. Even if their plot and conspiracy is well-planned, we wish to stress that this kind of work is not a genius one, politically. It is certainly an outdated and uncivilized kind of dirty political foul-play in order to bring one's opponent down at a...

Who is practising selective policies first?

Image
When the Penang Telecommunications Task Force Chairman and Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi announced that all parliamentary constituencies in Penang which are "not" under Pakatan Rakyat would be excluded from the Penang Free WiFi Project due to lack of funds, the BN leaders are quick to fire their salvo at the state government for the exclusion of their BN-held parliamentary constituencies from this online wireless project. According to state Gerakan chairman Dr Teng Hock Nan, state PPP chairman Dr Loga Bala, state MCA chairman Dr Ng Yen Yen and Umno MP Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, the current state government was practising selective policies, being unfair, discriminating and undemocratic. Firs of all, we would like to ask all these state BN leaders. Who are the ones who are practising selective policies, being undemocratic, discriminating and unfair in the first place? When the BN was still in power in Penang prior to 2008, why were the opposition state assemblymen being denied their a...

The unjust electoral system in Malaysia

Image
In aftermath of the 12th general election, we had saw so many by-elections going on following death of many elected parliamentarians and state assemblymen. Elections after elections, all the events were dominated by the Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition because the government machinery is controlled by them. The traditional mainstream medias, such as information offices, TV stations, newspapers and radio stations are fully mobilized to attack the opposition coalition at all times. Very often these BN leaders used government-owned transportation and services to channel their electoral campaign messages to the people, at the same time totally denying opposition leaders the right to use them, despite their pledge to do so. Aside this, the BN leaders too have another advantage, the Election Commission (EC) which is under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister's Department. Under the prime minister who is also the Umno president and BN chairman, the federal ruling coalition had m...

The Bible is threatening while the nuclear smells good!

Image
Well, the BN federal government has already decided today that they would go ahead with plans to construct two nuclear plants in our nation despite wide protests from our people here. What else could they think of? Only instant profit is in their mind. Never mind with the people as they won't give them any benefit other that uncertain votes. But with nuclear power, the BN leaders could use it as a bargaining tool to ensure they would remain in power longer. Generating nuclear power is easy and cheap, but haven't they consider the consequences to our nation in the long run? Haven't they look into how to dispose all these nuclear waste in future? Are you all going to just throw it in our backyard or neighbourhood? We are not going to let that happen! We all still could remember during the reign of former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad who initially allowed nuclear waste from Taiwan to be delivered and disposed in Bukit Merah but his attempt was cut short following mass prot...

Are the Malays scared of the Chinese?

By Mariam Mokhtar Day after day, Malays are bombarded with messages that they are the ā€˜supreme raceā€™ (Ketuanan Melayu), that they are the rightful owners of this land and that under Pakatan, Malaysia will be ā€˜soldā€™ to the Chinese ā€“ not just any old Chinese, but the Singaporean Chinese, as if that was the benchmark for the worst form of Chinese! These insecure Malays, whose ages range from their teens to their seventies, and who come from both the rural and urban communities, firmly believe that ā€œthe Chinese will overrun this countryā€. Somehow, the Indians are not perceived as a threat. When will the Malays understand that the stories about the Chinese taking over are just lies that they are fed, by Umno? The truth is that Umno and other extremist groups are afraid of losing their hold on the Malays and by extension, their grip on power. The confident independent Malays easily disregard this facetious statement. But what about less assured ones who wholeheartedly believe that they will ...

Home minister warns The Star on the Malay bible coverage

Image
Home minister and Umno vice-president Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein had recently signed a warning letter issued to The Star newspaper over its extensive coverage on the detention of the 35,000 copies of the Malay language bible by the ministry. The ministry's letter had asked the popular English daily to explain its news reporting on the said controversial bible story in a move seen as fighting the fires ahead of the upcoming Sarawak state election which may see a swing in votes in favour of the opposition coalition. It looks very clear that the Umno-led BN federal government is working hard to prevent the truth from reaching to our people. The home ministry is taking up its efforts to purge the truth from going to the Sarawak people for fear of being defeated in the upcoming state election which is due to be call by middle of April. The import of the Malay language bible is to serve the large numbers of Christian communities in Sarawak and Sabah. The Christians in these two states ha...

BN government insist of building a nuclear plant

Image
Despite seeing the experience of the Japanese nuclear disaster following the recent earthquake and the deadly tsunami, the BN federal government insist of going on with its plan to build a nuclear plant in Malaysia. If the Japanese cannot contain such disaster even with its high-tech equipments and technologies, what would happen if such disaster happens in Malaysia if one of its nuke plants blow up? We are not talking about earthquakes may happen in Malaysia, but our grave concerns are those shoddy constructions of buildings here, like the collapse of a stadium, collapse of some newly constructed government office buildings, poor workmanship of public sites, and lastly popular corrupt practices, would we ever dare to accept the fact that a nuclear plant would be build in Malaysia? Certainly no! We doubt this proposed nuclear plant would be constructed in a professional manner. With corruption and power abuse still on top of the BN federal government's subject, we also doubt that t...

Seizure of 35,000 Malay language Bibles - another 1Malaysia project

Image
The seizure of 35,000 copies of the Malay language Bibles in Port Klang and Kuching Port recently had angered the Christian communities here as well as in Sabah and Sarawak. What was the reason of the seizure? Yes, certainly it is because of the word "Allah" being used in these Malay language Bibles. Because the Umno-led BN federal government fears that these Malay language Bibles could influence the Malay community and Umno members as well to leave Islam and to convert to Christianity. The policy of mass seizure of these Malay language Bibles and the banning on the use of the word "Allah" by the authorities clearly indicates the suppression of other religions in this nation by the Umno regime who wanted to make clear that its policies does outdo the one from PAS, its arch rival for support and votes from the Malay community. We want to ask all these Umno leaders. Are you all Muslims are so overly weak in your will that you would fear of an immediate conversion to C...

Another Gerakan leader left the party

Image
This week, we informed that another Gerakan leader has decided to call it quit after years being with the party, citing of being sick of Umno's continuous racial politics and dominance in the Barisan Nasional coalition. Gerakan central committee member Dr Hsu Dar Ren had announced his resignation from the party on Tuesday. According to Dr Hsu, he made his decision with a heavy heart and also said that Gerakan is a political party with good ideology to establish a fair and equitable society in Malaysia. Yes, Dr Hsu was correct in saying that. It is true that Gerakan is a good party because of its Malaysian-based objectives and principles, but somehow within the framework of the BN coalition which is dominated by the race-based and extremist Umno, it would be impossible for Gerakan to achieve and advance its ideas effectively. Under Umno, the entire nation is being torn apart almost daily and the racial relations has never been so worst as now. Gerakan had worked very hard to promot...

EC should ask ROS to register Pakatan quickly

Image
The Election Commission (EC) had recently advised the current opposition pact, Pakatan Rakyat comprising PAS, PKR and DAP, to register their coalition so that they could use their logo in the coming general election. EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the coalition should be registered because the opposition parties were always seen violating regulations of the election campaign, especially on the use of their logo. Datuk Wan Ahmad seems to be overly ignorant and too forgetful on this issue. The EC deputy chairman should ask the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to quickly register the Pakatan instead of calling on Pakatan to register itself. Pakatan Rakyat had earlier send in their formal application to register itself as a coalition of political parties since November 2009 and ROS has yet to register the said entity till today after delaying and creating so many hassles for more than a year. It is not Pakatan who is delaying on its application but it was the ROS who is just...

Military to be used to crush the opposition?

Image
Today's Star newspapers reflects that the defense minister and Umno vice-president Datuk "Dr" Zahid Hamidi vowed to crush the opposition with the military force under his charge. In the report Zahid also accused the opposition leaders of trying to stage an uprising to topple the Umno-led BN federal government and he had instructed the military's army, air force and naval intelligence to be on alert and keep watch on the opposition leaders. Zahid, however refused to name who were the opposition leaders whom he claimed are involved in the plan to stage an uprising and a possible coup d'etat here. Looks like Zahid is playing with big fire, but he blamed the opposition leaders of playing the fire instead. The Umno leader who is also the defense minister is indeed manipulating the military to his and Umno's advantage. When Umno launched a violent but yet to be bloody coup d'etat to overthrow the Perak state government of the then Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Nizar ...

MCA leader barks up the wrong tree!

Image
The sexist MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek has done it again. According to the recent report, Dr Chua had challenge all Pakatan Rakyat state governments to recognize the United Examination Certificate (UEC) holders and hire them into the states' civil service. Well, we would not know if he really doesn't know it or he is just pretending not to know it, or is he merely listening to Umno's instruction in order to confuse the Chinese community. We are glad that Penang Chief Minister and DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng had came to educate Dr Chua on his ignorance. Pakatan state governments cannot accept eligible UEC holders into the state civil service as these proceedings are currently bound by the rules set by the BN controlled federal level Public Service Commission (JPA). So, if Dr Chua wants the Pakatan state government to recognize the UEC qualifications and admit them into their state civil services, he must first pull MCA out of BN and throw their support ov...

ROS wants to limit number of political parties

Image
The Registrar of Societies (ROS) director-general Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman had recently told the press that his department had intended to limit the number of political parties in this country and the recommendation on the said proposal has been submitted to the home ministry for review and approval. According to Datuk Abdul Rahman, having about 33 political parties in this country with a 28 million population and some 7 million registered voters is enough. He also said that those who intend to pursue their political interest could also do so via NGOs. Well, it is absurd and very unprofessional for Datuk Abdul Rahman to say that as his statements clearly contradicts the Federal Constitution that guarantees the rights of all Malaysians to form political parties and associations. The ROS director-general has no right to dictate such regulations. By implementing such rules which not in the Societies Act at all, he is going against the spirit of the Federal Constitution which guarantees ...
