Allow Anti-Racism march, Human Rights group tells BN government

The renowned New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) has asked home minister and Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein to respect Malaysia’s international and legal obligations and to allow this Sunday’s Solidarity March Against Racism to proceed.

HRW’s Asia region deputy director, Phil Robertson, called on Hishammuddin to overturn a decision by the police force to deny a permit for the march in Kuala Lumpur, saying that the organizers on their part should ensure that the walk is carried out in an orderly and peaceful manner.

The Malaysian government’s opposition to peaceful marches results in three big losers: the rights to free expression, freedom of association, and peaceful assembly.

It is a very clear hypocrite, while the Umno-led BN federal government is advocating about 1Malaysia concept where everyone is "equal", it only allows violent protests and demonstrations organized by racist and extremist organizations particularly from its own, Perkasa and the other right-wingers to take place anywhere or at anytime they like.

And at the same time, when there are people or responsible citizens who wanted to counter protest or demonstrate peacefully and in orderly manner against terrorism, racism and the extremist, the home ministry does not allow that?

Why? What was the reason for not allowing these peace-loving people to voice out their displeasure over terrorism, racism and the extremist? You are advocating 1Malaysia concept, which is something on unity and a Malaysian concept, so why not allow these people to protest in support of your concept?

But you allowed irresponsible politically racist and extremist leaders to hold protests and demonstrations that are deemed to be violent and endangering security and public order to take place. You even allow these so-called terrorists to incite hate and issue threats to other races or communities that bloodshed would come and the May 13 incident would repeat.

When peaceful protesters are standing in a place to voice their displeasure peacefully, singing some beautiful songs and lighting up their candles, Hishammuddin send heavily armed police battalions loaded in trucks and used acid-like water canons to crush them like "hardcore criminals".

But when the real hardcore criminals - terrorists, racists and extremists were out there drumming hatred and issuing threats of bloodshed and war, the police just stood there and doing nothing. And to one extend, some policemen are also seen chatting with these bastards happily and offering their "support".

Where is justice and equality? Where is democracy? Where are our human rights and our rights to freedom of expression? Taken away by terrorists and criminals! Only they have such rights.
