Attack on Tung Shin Hospital, police breached procedures

The riot police broke their own standard operating procedures (SOP) by firing tear gas and water cannons when dispersing Bersih 2.0 rally marchers at the Tung Shin Hospital on 9th July, a Health Ministry investigation has concluded.

Home ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Mahmood Adam said tonight that errant policemen would be referred to the police’s disciplinary board. The investigation results concluded that there were unethical actions which were beyond the SOP of the police force during their errant crackdown on the said rally.

It clearly shows that what had been stated and denied earlier by both the health minister and MCA deputy president Liow Tiong Lai and the home minister and Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein himself were proven to be baseless and political motivated aimed to cover-up the truth.

The reported conducted by the home ministry officials themselves had in fact embarrassed the home minister himself who had earlier denied the police strong arm tactics against the hospital as well as Liow who had then gathered the board members of the hospital to assist him to deny the police brutality at the said healthcare premises.

Kudos to Tan Sri Mahmood who is willing to release the truth transpired at that time to the public despite earlier denial from his boss. We just hope that he will not be penalized after this for not being aligned with the minister.

The next thing now is, we want to see real disciplinary actions to be taken against all those errant policemen for their brutal abuse of power. As such, please release the findings of the police disciplinary board inquiry to the public in order to prove that you are going to do the right thing.

EC should ask ROS to register Pakatan quickly

The Election Commission (EC) had recently advised the current opposition pact, Pakatan Rakyat comprising PAS, PKR and DAP, to register their coalition so that they could use their logo in the coming general election. EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the coalition should be registered because the opposition parties were always seen violating regulations of the election campaign, especially on the use of their logo. Datuk Wan Ahmad seems to be overly ignorant and too forgetful on this issue. The EC deputy chairman should ask the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to quickly register the Pakatan instead of calling on Pakatan to register itself. Pakatan Rakyat had earlier send in their formal application to register itself as a coalition of political parties since November 2009 and ROS has yet to register the said entity till today after delaying and creating so many hassles for more than a year. USM fiasco a shame

I read and heard with irritation and felt disgusted with the fiasco committed by the apex status university called Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) which caused untold anguish to the affected students and their parents. If this happened in Japan, the Vice-Chancellor would have done the honourable thing - take full responsibilty and leave, but here in Malaysia, as expected, the blame is shifted here and there, trying to make someone a scapegoat. By the way, would there be any racist or sabotage elements involved? Those who are responsible for this fiasco should be sacked or expelled immediately.

No action against YBs without speaker's consent

Penang assembly Speaker Law Choo Kiang said the police and attorney-general (AG) cannot prosecute any elected representatives for any wrongdoings committed in the House. Law said the authorities cannot act on the assemblypersons without the agreement of the speaker. "So this clearly cancels the (planned) charge against Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer for sedition under the 1948 Sedition Act," the PKR Bukit Tambun assemblyperson said in a statement yesterday. Law said a warning based on the assembly's standing orders has been issued to Rayer not to repeat the remark "Umno celaka" (damned Umno), which the latter allegedly uttered in the House on May 20.
