MCCBCHST opt for peace and harmony but IKIM wanted supremacy

Malaysia’s inter-faith umbrella group today took a hit at recent remarks made by the Umno-link International Institute of Islamic Understanding (IKIM) scholars that their religion is superior but refused to be drawn into a public debate, saying they preferred dialogue to keep the peace.

Malaysian Consultative Council for Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) president Reverend Thomas Phillips reaffirmed the group was committed to promoting harmony and understanding in multi religious Malaysia, pointing to warming ties between Muslims and non-Muslims in the past two months.

All religions are equal and no religion in this world is greater than the other. Why is IKIM keep on harping on its superiority and supremacy over the other religion in our nation? It has been clearly mentioned in the Federal Constitution, Islam is the official religion in our nation. It did not mention that Islam is the master or supreme religion of this country.

And again, in the Federal Constitution, it did not mention that all other religions should be subservient to Islam as an official religion of this country.

The way IKIM scholars behave, shows that they did not want peace, harmony and national unity. IKIM wanted to disunity, hate, control and dominate other religions and insist that they must submit to the supremacy and superiority of Islam.

What kind of Islam is IKIM practicing? This is completely unIslamic! The Islam religion does not cordon to such actions. In the Surah Al-Baqarah of the Quran it clearly states that there should be no compulsion in advancing the religion.

Claiming oneself to be a supreme and superiority over others are not the Islamic way as such act is arrogant and dominant. Did Islam ask you all in IKIM to say and dictate such requirements?

We are in the opinion that the IKIM scholars are feeling inferior, seeing that other religions had well developed and modernize, therefore did not dare to have dialogue with for fear of being outnumbered.

IKIM is afraid to face the facts and reality.

EC should ask ROS to register Pakatan quickly

The Election Commission (EC) had recently advised the current opposition pact, Pakatan Rakyat comprising PAS, PKR and DAP, to register their coalition so that they could use their logo in the coming general election. EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the coalition should be registered because the opposition parties were always seen violating regulations of the election campaign, especially on the use of their logo. Datuk Wan Ahmad seems to be overly ignorant and too forgetful on this issue. The EC deputy chairman should ask the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to quickly register the Pakatan instead of calling on Pakatan to register itself. USM fiasco a shame

I read and heard with irritation and felt disgusted with the fiasco committed by the apex status university called Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) which caused untold anguish to the affected students and their parents. If this happened in Japan, the Vice-Chancellor would have done the honourable thing - take full responsibilty and leave, but here in Malaysia, as expected, the blame is shifted here and there, trying to make someone a scapegoat. By the way, would there be any racist or sabotage elements involved? Those who are responsible for this fiasco should be sacked or expelled immediately.

Singapore Malay daily teaches Mahathir about hardwork

The former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's assumption that Malays in Singapore had failed and their neighbouring Malays should take lesson from their plight has not impressed a Singaporean daily. The republic's Malay daily Berita Harian in an editorial said Malay-Muslims in the republic state were successful and it was a result of their real efforts and hard work in line with the values of meritocracy, not a result of being spoon-fed. “We do not believe in being spoon-fed or being too dependent on the government - in other words, we do not have a crutch mentality,' wrote editor Guntor Sadali.
