How to be grateful to our nation?

In the previous general elections, till March 2008, the Umno-led BN coalition federal government often misused the word patriotic by reminding our people to be grateful of them.

Those BN leaders, especially Umno had often said "be grateful of what you have today", "be grateful of the stability of this country today", "be grateful of what you are today", "be grateful that you are staying in this country today", "do not repeat May 13" and so on.

So come the general election on March 2008, which saw the Umno-led BN coalition tumbled and lost its two thirds majority in the parliament for the second time since 1969. The BN were finally being denied their two thirds majority by the "ungrateful" Malaysian voters.

While suffering from its lost, Umno particularly had started to lashed out at voters saying that the generations of new voters today were so ungrateful and unpatriotic for voting the opposition parties who later came together to establish the Pakatan Rakyat.

What does Umno mean of us being ungrateful and unpatriotic to our nation? Does Umno mean that we are being disloyal to our nation for voting for the opposition parties?

LET US CORRECT them in detail on the meaning "grateful" and "ungrateful". First of all, none of us would ever be grateful to Umno or BN for what they had done to us: threatening our multi racial society, threatening to dislodge the national unity of our nation, embarking and continuing their supremacist ideology, racist laws and policies against our people, continue to disunite our people with divide and rule characteristics in order to ensure continuous friction between muslims and non-muslims, between malay and non-malay communities, as well as between muslim and non-muslim bumiputra communities, demonstrating supremacist, hatred and violence against other religious communities, insisting of a supreme religious greatness over the other religions.

Besides all these racial and political terrorism, none of us would also be grateful to Umno and BN for what they had done to the governance of our nation: rampant corruptions, power abuse, fund mismanagement, criminal breach of trusts (CBT), rising influx of illegal immigrants, rising crimes, continuous price hikes, oppression of human rights, freedom of speech, injustice, enforcement of draconian laws, inaccurate information, and worst of all, giving us false hope.

But we are and shall always be grateful that majority of our people in this nation are already matured in terms of being in the harmonious multi racial, multi religious and multi cultural society. We are deeply grateful that our people had choose not to be influence by the politically racist and narrow mindedness of Umno who always strive for a political racial divide policies in ruling this nation via their 3Rs i.e. racism, religion and rulers manipulation in politics.

We are also deeply grateful that our people as well as ourselves had voted in more opposition members into the parliament and state legislative assemblies in order to provide a distinctive check and balance on the governance of our nation and to prevent further destruction and depreciation of the valuable funds and treasury of our nation.

Therefore, in order to preserve the national unity, justice, equality, freedom, social democracy and more importantly, the stability of our nation, we must be grateful to each of everyone of us, be grateful to our families, friends and our nation.

There is no need for us to be grateful to Umno or BN for what they had done to our nation: racism, hate, violence, corruptions, power abuse, price hikes, oppression via ISA, UUCA, OSA, PPPA laws and so on.

If Umno were to ask us this question again, "what else more do you want from us?", then our answers would be "you should be grateful to us for the powers that you have been enjoying for decades by giving us back our human rights, justice, freedom, equality and democracy".
