Penang DAP State Ordinary Convention
I had attended the Penang DAP State Ordinary Convention today held at Dewan Tunku, Komtar, Penang as a delegate of my local branch situated in the Bagan Parliamentary Liaison.
The state ordinary convention was officiated by DAP Secretary-General and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Today's convention also saw a total of 88 candidates vying for 15 placements in the state party committee. As compared with the earlier contests in the Selangor and Perak DAP state ordinary conventions, the contest here in Penang clearly did not reflect any factionalism.
Well done incumbent State Party Chairman Chow Kon Yeow who had worked hard to ensure the Penang DAP stays united as a team. Personally, I would suggest, DAP leaders of other states should also follow the good leadership example set by Kon Yeow, who was later re-elected to his position after his victory.
During the debate on the State Party Secretary's Annual Report, I had brought up some issues to the attention of the state party leadership as follows:
Party's New Voter Registration Exercise
Based on the report, the Penang DAP had achieved its goal of getting a very high number of new voters registered for the next general election.
However, in order to ensure its achievement is as effective, the state party leadership must also ensure that the registration of new voters which has been submitted to the Election Commission (EC) must appear in the next gazetted electoral roll prior to the 13th general election.
As such, constant follow-ups with the EC by the party must be carried out to ensure that all these new voters appear in the next electoral list in order to vote for the 13th general election.
Information on Party and State Government Initiatives
It has been noticed that the distribution of the Penang State Government's periodical publication Suara CAT has yet to reach all levels in the Penang state, particularly the Seberang Perai area.
Due to this, some of the voters and our people still do not understand or did not obtain more accurate information on the achievements and activities initiated by the party and the state government.
In this case, I had proposed that the distribution of the Suara CAT publication should be extended to wider public facilities, such as offices of state government agencies, shopping complexes and hypermarkets as well as other public prone areas.
