Senatorship as compensation for MIC deputy president
The BN and Umno leaders had came up with a compromise with the MIC president recently that its party deputy president Datuk G. Palanivel would be offered a senatorship (member of the Dewan Negara) to compensate the later for not being selected to contest in the Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-elections.
A source from inside MIC had also informed that Datuk Palanivel will also be given a deputy ministerial post in order not to offend his supporters in Hulu Selangor into voting for PKR as a protest.
It shows that even though Palanivel is the MIC deputy president, he is no more relevant in the party itself and in the eyes of the BN and Umno as well. The looked at him as a burden, risky and may also jeopardize the BN's chances of winning an election. It is also certain that Palanivel will also not be allowed to contest in the next general election.
Palanivel is not considered an asset to the BN coalition anymore as he is now viewed more like a stumbling block instead. So, is Palanivel going to accept the senatorship and deputy ministerial position or quit MIC to maintain his principle and dignity?
