Hulu Selangor by-election : Crack in the BN fold
Signs of crack within the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition is very clear now, as the Umno Hulu Selangor division had threatened to boycott the by-election campaign should the BN leadership decides to put MIC deputy president Datuk G.Palanivel to contest in the said parliamentary constituency.
The Umno division in that area had earlier insisted that its candidate should be chosen to contest in that parliamentary constituency based on the racial composition there.
The current racial composition of the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency are 53.9% Malays, with Chinese at 26.7%, while the Indians stands at 19% and others 0.4%. According to the Umno division deputy chairman Adnan Buyong it is time that the should be given the opportunity to contest since MIC had lost the area in the last general election.
MIC, looks like your deputy president is being bullied by an Umno division deputy chairman who is much more supreme. Umno is supreme, dominant and they expect all BN component parties to listen to their commands.
The MIC president Samy Vellu said the prime minister supported his party, but did Umno support them anyway? Majority of the Umno grassroots did not want MIC in its fold at all.
