Boycott "small fry" inter-faith panel, inter-religious leaders told

The deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today the inter-faith panel set up by the cabinet consisted only of “small-fry” and it will not have any influence over the nation because there is no legal powers in the committee.

That means, this so-called Umno-led BN federal government sponsored inter-faith panel is powerless. The minister Dr Koh Tsu Koon who earlier announced the formation of this committee is also powerless leader.

Being the minister in charge of national unity in the prime minister's department, Dr Koh was not even given a prominent role in this inter-faith panel. If he is powerless to initiate any roles in the panel, then this whole effort of his are useless.

Therefore, we urge all religious leaders to boycott this "small fry" inter-faith panel as it is a powerless body and it would a waste of time to participate in a panel which is already seen as ineffective.

It is very clear that the Umno-led BN federal government is cheating the entire nation by giving a false hope to the people that an inter-faith panel would be established to address various concerns on religious matters and inter-religious relations.

So, do you all want to use this rusty empty tin can?

EC should ask ROS to register Pakatan quickly

The Election Commission (EC) had recently advised the current opposition pact, Pakatan Rakyat comprising PAS, PKR and DAP, to register their coalition so that they could use their logo in the coming general election. EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the coalition should be registered because the opposition parties were always seen violating regulations of the election campaign, especially on the use of their logo. Datuk Wan Ahmad seems to be overly ignorant and too forgetful on this issue. The EC deputy chairman should ask the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to quickly register the Pakatan instead of calling on Pakatan to register itself. Pakatan Rakyat had earlier send in their formal application to register itself as a coalition of political parties since November 2009 and ROS has yet to register the said entity till today after delaying and creating so many hassles for more than a year. USM fiasco a shame

I read and heard with irritation and felt disgusted with the fiasco committed by the apex status university called Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) which caused untold anguish to the affected students and their parents. If this happened in Japan, the Vice-Chancellor would have done the honourable thing - take full responsibilty and leave, but here in Malaysia, as expected, the blame is shifted here and there, trying to make someone a scapegoat. By the way, would there be any racist or sabotage elements involved? Those who are responsible for this fiasco should be sacked or expelled immediately.

No action against YBs without speaker's consent

Penang assembly Speaker Law Choo Kiang said the police and attorney-general (AG) cannot prosecute any elected representatives for any wrongdoings committed in the House. Law said the authorities cannot act on the assemblypersons without the agreement of the speaker. "So this clearly cancels the (planned) charge against Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer for sedition under the 1948 Sedition Act," the PKR Bukit Tambun assemblyperson said in a statement yesterday. Law said a warning based on the assembly's standing orders has been issued to Rayer not to repeat the remark "Umno celaka" (damned Umno), which the latter allegedly uttered in the House on May 20.
