Karpal is correct! Follow the 1 candidate, 1 seat proposal

DAP National Chairman Karpal Singh has made it clear that his party should follow the one candidate, one seat policy when coming to contesting in the next general elections. Karpal's reasons and justifications are very clear.

DAP today is not the same as the DAP in the years before 2008. Prior to the year 2008, the total membership in the said opposition party is very little, there are also not many branches around the country at that time. However, the party enjoys the people's widest ever support and monetary contributions due to its struggle for the people, the nation and its efforts in combating corruption, power abuse and racism.

In this situation, due to lack of capable members and leaders in the party at that time, candidates have no choice but to opt for two seats to contest.

After the 12th general elections in March 2008, the membership in DAP continue to grow, following its outstanding performance that saw the party came into prominence when it formed the Penang state government, shared power in Perak and Selangor. After its membership increases, new branches began to mushroom nationwide too.

So, with the current and continuous increase of membership in DAP, the party leadership ought to understand the current scenario in the party is no more similar to the past. If there are more members now in the party, so does the choice of candidates.

In this case, the one candidate, two seats practice should go, in order to provide more opportunities for other candidates aspiring to serve the people and the nation. Because of this, the party's National Chairman is right to make his call aloud so the leadership is aware of the needs to extend the opportunities to others as well.

Maybe, in the case if a party leader is holding the position of Chief Minister or Menteri Besar, it can be justified that he should also contest in a parliamentary seat too in order to bring the state's issues and highlights to the federal government's attention.

But as for the rest, please let go either one of the seats, be it parliamentary or state assembly in order to pave way for other candidates to serve. DAP leaders should provide its allocation fairly to its members to prove their worth to the people and the nation.

DAP is no more short of members or leaders, therefore please set the example and start the ball rolling from your side by expounding the democratic principles of the party.
