Idris Jala: Why must I be Malaysian first?

Datuk Seri Idris Jala said today that nationality, race and religion are of equal importance when determining an individual’s true Malaysian identity.

As such, the minister in the prime minister’s department said the “Malaysian first, Malay next” dilemma should not arise as being Malaysian as well as Malay are different matters and are both important.

“I get upset with people stuck with this whole Malaysian first dilemma. Why must I be Malaysian first and Malay second?” he said when dissecting the 1Malaysia concept during his keynote address at an intercultural dialogue this afternoon.

So, Idris Jala, is this how you promote 1Malaysia? Do you really know the definition of 1Malaysia or being a Malaysian in particular? If we don't have to be a Malaysian first, then the entire nation will disintegrate very soon.

Come on, do not play up the racial politics in such way. Umno is already damaging our nation's multiracial national unity and the Malaysian identity at large, and now you are also doing the same thing for them in order to satisfy their "ketuanan" lusts.

The other thing is, when we travel outside Malaysia and when foreigners look at us, we were being addressed as Malaysians. These foreigners and their nation did not categories us as Malaysian Kelabits, Malaysian Malays, Malaysian Indians, Malaysian Dayaks or even Malaysian Chinese. They just call us Malaysians wherever we go.

Actually, the real fact here is we should be proud Malaysians. Our identities and backgrounds as Malays, Indians, Dayaks, Kelabits, Chinese, Kadazans remain in our personal capacities. And that's it!

It is all of you racists in the Umno-led BN federal government who are always at the lost on who really you are and what is you actual race. Please grow up and stop behaving so childish in such manner as this would not bring our nation anywhere.

You are just simply asking our people to continue to look at themselves as Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kelabits, Kadazans or Dayaks instead of being a Malaysian in our nation call Malaysia.

For your information, Idris Jala. When a country exist, the nationality shall always comes first. Race and religion would always be secondary and individual identity when a country is moving forward as a matured, advanced and developed nation.

That means, after 54 years + 1 month of Malaysia's independence, the BN federal government under the dominance of Umno has yet to see this country under their governance as one. In this case, your 1Malaysia idea is just as useless as the trash.
