Economic success in Pakatan states proof of proper governance

High investment figures, budget surpluses and reduction of debts in Pakatan Rakyat (PR) states are proof that the federal opposition is ready to take on the role of governing the country.

Three PR states (Penang, Selangor and Kedah) were listed in the top five states which recorded the highest levels of approved manufacturing investment last year.

The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) released figures this week that showed that the opposition-controlled states of Penang and Selangor had recorded the highest levels of approved manufacturing investment in 2011, at RM9.1 billion and RM8.74 billion respectively.

This is the second year in a row that Penang and Selangor have topped the ranks for approved manufacturing investment and a sharp contrast to 2009 when Sarawak attracted the highest levels of manufacturing investment and Penang came in fourth.

However, the international trade and industry minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed who is also the Kelantan Umno liaison chief had said that Penang had done well since the 1980s due to strong support from the federal government and because of Pakatan is governing the state.

So, Mustapha is trying to claim credit for the "previous efforts" that he and his ministry had carried out. One question to Mustapha, you said you started the foundation, but how come these investors did not come in during the BN's reign in these states but they only decided to roll in immediately after Pakatan took over these states after the 2008 general elections.

And since Mustapha had said that Penang had done well because of the strong support from the federal government, what has he done in his capacity as a federal cabinet minister and Kelantan Umno liaison chairman? Why is Kelantan still under-develop until today? Why is Kelantan being denied many allocation of funds in some occasion?

What about the RM800 million annual oil revenue which was supposed to channel to Kelantan and its people? Why is Mustapha still sitting on it and not fighting hard to get that revenue back for his fellow Kelantanese? It shows that he is not sincere enough in doing so and as long as Kelantan is still govern by PAS, Umno's arch rival, Umno and the federal government will not provide event a single cent for the east coast state.

Understand the simple rules and principles, if the state is properly governed, no corruption, transparency, competency and accountability are rest assured, these investors will definitely feel confident to step in to pour out their investments as they knew that such proper governance will certainly do away all those hassles, unnecessarily bureaucratic procedures, delays and the bests ones are efficiency and professionalism at work.
